Some good places for lunch. I really like The Brain Jar. It is opposite Bob Carvers. They do fantastic sandwiches and pizzas - Wood Fired Bread is delicious that they use for the sandwiches, I had the Fennel & Orange rubbed Pork Belly - had nice bits of crackling in the sarnie. Delicious!
The car park machines were inactive recently so free parking also. Was something to do with the flood defence work. HOWEVER as it is half term week there will be loads of people going to the Deep so might be best to stay away from that quarter.
I second Nibble and Leonardos - I don’t think Nibble serves alcohol though if that influences your decision...
Just read about the passing of this bloke. Used to work opposite there in the early 1970s. One of the best steaks I have ever had. In fact everything was excellent. A really great city centre restaurant. https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/new...ews/andreas-florou-hull-chef-tributes-3476943
Went to Minerva in the end. The food was excellent! Not a single complaint between us and the place was very busy too. Thanks for all the suggestions. Can’t wait to try some of them out!
Old habits die hard. Glad you enjoyed it. Definitely try Lion and Key sometime- well worth it. The Old House was another really good suggestion.
Lion and Key for fish and chips but the last couple of times I've been the beer's been of questionable quality and the staff didn't seem too bothered by it. On one occasion another customer I spoke with thought the same thing.
Minerva does a good job of serving decent pub food whilst still being a good drinking pub. It's my favourite when I'm in Hull.
My current favourite place. They always have at least one decent cask porter/stout and alao always have at least one Turning Point. They had Lucid Dream last week and an amazing Wild Child stout the week before. They have a canning machine behind the bar so you can get any of the beers on tap canned to take home. Cost is pint price less 20% for I think a 440ml can.
