Yep Sevenoaks became one oak. And that was the mother of all storms. I was living in SE London on the borders of Kent. I remember my old man was at work as he used to work nights at Burroughs and Wecome in Dartford (now Glaxo Smithkline) they kept all the workers in the canteen for the night as the roof came off one of the workshops.

And that Michael Fish weather report is now legendary.

Yeah things were real bad mate. The infamous car boot sale riot of 89 was a real low point, I lost 3 porcelain horses and an entire Gloria Estefan back catalogue on vinyl during that carnage. Not to mention my paste table got completely wrecked.

I wasn't poor at all. We lived in a mansion and our farts smelled of perfume.

I had my rebellious years early. I got in trouble more than once in primary school for writing "poo" and "fart" all over my worksheets in big letters before showing the teacher.

I don't know about the world going to **** after 1982, but it certainly sucked in the 90's.

Musically it was a dire decade, all depressing and it became fashionable to sing like you were dying of throat cancer, rasping for breath.

Dark, dull, boring colours were in fashion and people wore everything 2 sizes too big. Frumpy lesbian-chic was in for everyone.

    Liverpool were not doing well.

TV entered a dark age and towards the end of the 90s reality shows were beginning to take off.

It was later than 1982 that things went downhill... I think we're heading for a rebound again, at least fashion-wise. Frumpy oversized dark coloured clothes suitable for fat people becoming stylish again.

I'm not that old (31) but I look at younger people now and think a lot has changed from when I was younger.

I sort of see my generation as the last which kept busy and got out and about before smart phones and the internet took over people's lives.

We had computer games then too which we did play but we also played a lot of football, went to the beach and made fires and shot things and each other in the local woods.

We were out a lot of the time and wanted to be.

Used to meet friends from school, go to the local AstroTurf, bunk over the fence and give random people a game of football and we'd play from about 9 util about 5 solid except for lunch. Multiple days in a row.

Loved it. If not, skateboarding and mountain biking.

Just don't see it now - you don't actually see that many people just kicking a ball about.

I know every generation is confused by the one that follows but society does genuinely seemed to have changed a lot in the past 20 years and I'm not convinced for younger people that its a good thing.
