I think that this was in part due to the system. As someone else said above, can't remember who, if the full backs are going to push on as much as they do, Cameron has to be much deeper to help out at the back. Hall and Leistner had a lot to do today against a very pacey attack, and were asked to play a high line.

Felt we weren't quite playing the right system today.

Edit - Saw someone say on twitter that if we're not going to ask Scowen and Cameron to break up play we'd be better off playing one of Amos or Smith, which I thought was an interesting idea...

Spot on Woody lacked any intensity first half same as against Reading. BOS and Eze looked like only players capable of changing the game but playing Cameron and Scowen in Central Midfield meant there was no pace/ Skill to release BOS.who had the beating of left back all night long

Feel very frustrated right now. Brentford was perhaps clearly better team tonight if we take the match as whole 90 minutes. Still, at the time they get their ”fake penalty” we were clearly top of them, we won almost every ball and every battle. I was sure that we score a lead goal in minutes. Then that piece of s**t dare to dive like that and the blind man without cane blew his whistle. That pen was very crucial in this match. That ridicolous pen saved this match for them. That ref with a wooden eye does not gave us pen althought they were much, much clearlier pens than the one he gave against us.

I dont care they were better than us in tonights match. We were robbed by that
blind ref and that awful diver. These kind of things make me hope, that VAR would also come to championship.
With a VAR that pen decision would have ruled out and that s**t of a player would have a yellow card. We have a big issues in our defence, that is a fact. What we are going to do about it? Without doing anything about it we
are falling down in the table and prob play for places 18-12...

still work in progress for me. MW is probably aware he is still a little short however we are doing better than I thought we would be so far this season.

Hendrie on SKY reckons a penalty. If the player is pulling out and the player dives I don't know why he thinks that. Five tough games out of the next six, starting with Leeds away, so i think after that we see exactly what type of season we are going to have. Need to sort out letting goals in thou as the amount we have let in during the fourteen games is far to much. Obviously the plus is we are scoring goals.

Disappointed that we let another opportunity to be In the top two pass us by.
As everyone pointed out above, mistakes made across the board. Time to sort it out.
Kelly had a better game. Defence looks like giving out goals. Opposition tactics are becoming easy - stop us scoring and you’re sure to get goals and win.
Still ... We win together; we lose together.
Let’s sort this out and move on to the next game and get back to winning ways again.
I don’t want us saying we peaked in October!

Better more cohesive side won....we were a distant 2nd in first half but were looking good 2nd half until ref intervened with the ludicrous penalty decision...
There after they were street smart and killed the game it was always likely that they'd score again when we chased the game....
Annoying that we don't really show up for tv games but that has been happening for the last 20 years...
Still 8th is ok and way better than most of us expected...
    Keep the faith

Problem is Cameron and Scowen are not a good enough pair in midfield. Neither confident enough on the ball to play system out from the back....so we fanny about on edge of our pen area then lump long balls up to Wells who’s 5ft 9....?? Bypassing the 3 best ball players in the team.....feel 3 at the back as we have no pace there, full backs pushed on to support Eze and Chair with Amos perhaps....blackburn 2nd half was best home performance this season. Last 2 games have been down there with low points of last season.
Pen was a joke but Kelly made 4 great saves.....
Needs a bit of a rethink as we could slide quite quickly as the league is so tight.....

Well that was a bucket of ****, Brentford out thought, out fought and out played us. How many times from an attacking position two passes later our keeper is under pressure and please please please stop these cross field passes straight into touch.
We’ve come along way this season, stop falling back now.
I didn’t think our shout for a pen was a pen, there’s, he made the most of a clumsy clot push, I’d have wanted a pen the other way.
How typical Rangers getting high up the league with two very winnable games to come and we get one point.
Would you have it any other way.
    Damn right I would.

Hard to take. The non penalty settled this game and we conceded the third while chasing a draw. However, we were poor in the first half, and were second best in many aspects. The first goal should have been easily saved, Kelly is simply not good enough. We allowed them to play a lot tonight instead of scaring them like we have other teams this season. Two poor performances in a row in games our supporters are desperate to win. We need to reverse this trend quickly.
As a counter attacking side maybe we will always be better on the road. I thought we missed Hugill massively tonight.

Very poor first half & couldn’t string passes together, soft first goal but out fought in that half, better 2nd half & on top until that pen, wasn’t sure it was as in upper loft but just seen highlights & very soft pen indeed, can’t really argue with 3rd goal as chasing game, Eze wasted on wing in first half & got to play him through the middle to play off wells, need to change those two in midfield, glad we are away Saturday as seem to play better hopefully.

Disappointing obviously but the better team on the night won. Not seen it back but the penalty looked incredibly soft at best. We had them rattled from Hall’s goal until then and the ball just didn’t fall for us at times. One of those days.

Though we were short on quality to bring on, I was mystified by the decision to leave Rangel out there when BOS was getting double marked to protect a full-back he had on toast on a yellow. Also can’t for the life of me see what Ball did to get dropped for Cameron.

More good saves from Kelly. More poor defending. Meh. Still fancy us at Leeds.

    Agree re Hugill.
Didn't realise Brentford were that physical a team. Could have done with Matt Smith tonight.
Bitterly disappointed. I did expect us to turn up rather more than we did.

Sideways and back, sideways and back. Even the sideways passes are played slightly behind the receiving player. You have to sometimes play it forwards to the feet of someone who appears marked and trust them to turn their marker or draw a foul. Brentford were the better side, but the game turned on the penalty, which was a ludicrous decision. Kelly made some good saves, but his distribution was poor. Cameron and Scowen were woeful.

    Few quick things.
We started really slow, no intensity, Brentford were far better
We missed Hugill and Barbet alot
I thought Kelly was really good tonight....no one absolutely no-one could have saved that penalty. But
I do wish he wouldn't play quite so high as a sweeper.
I blame the CDs who were split and then Manning coming across to cover much more than Kelly for the first goal. Third goal was irrelevant.

Second half much better, until the penalty, which looked dubious in real time..and looks like a proper dive to me in the replay.

But the eagle eyed ref missed an absolute hand ball and then a blatant push in the back on Eze that had him tumbling in the box later on.
His decisions cost us the match..

Having said that only a few of the players were really going for it....Chair, BOS and Wells to name but three.
Scowen was okay. Kelly has gone up in my estimation a long way..

Cameron, Hall and Leistner did not gel and none had a good game. Manning had a substandard game, probably as there was no Hugill to meet his crosses

But the evening really ended okay for me at least. I actually met Ebere Eze and his family, two brothers and his lovely lovely father and his lovely girl friend...and he gave me his match shirt..and I have a photo to prove it..and he was just so so nice..but more of that tomorrow.

And Eze said he had been heavily pushed in the back ...and it was a certain penalty too.

Think Kelly must have been our MOM, he made at least 3 excellent saves. Partly at fault for their first though Manning and BFG more so. All three of their goals came from Mannings side, he got in an excellent run and a few crosses, but his defensive positioning was awful.

I was in reception afterwards and met Ilias Chair, who was clutching a bottle of champers, which was awarded to him as our man of the match.

I’ve just watched the short highlights and agree with the above comments; defending for 1st conceded goal poor, penalty for 2nd goal very soft, some good saves by Kelly.
