Exactly, Brexit has been an unnecessary distraction from all the important stuff that needs sorting out, like stopping austerity, sorting out climate change, etc., etc. Let’s bin Brexit via a referendum first, then have the election.
Brexit has a huge impact on everything you do. And the underlying forces driving Brexit do as well. I wouldn't assume you can just "bin Brexit" and move on like nothing happened. I don't know if it the people will vote to remain, and I think any election will actually just cloud the picture rather than clear things up.
Which is why the referendum has to happen before the election. As I have said before, a referendum free from the fraud and corruption which swayed the first one would almost certainly result in a Remain vote. The main force driving Brexit is the Anti-Tax Avoidance Directive, and that becomes law on the 1st January. Stopping those with a vested interest in having their offshore assets taxed from interfering in the referendum will be a challenge, but we know what to expect now. The lies and myths about the EU being the cause of everything that is bad about Britain have largely been exposed, although a hardcore of people will cling to the belief that austerity is good for them, and paying higher prices and selling our NHS to the Americans is better than freedom of movement of goods, services and people. The 2.2 million young people who were under 18 in 2016 will also help swing the vote towards staying.
Common sense and logically presented arguments are of no use whatsoever in these times. Of course it should be referendum first but it seems doubtful. What happens next gawd knows.
One word mate:- Thatcherism and you will see it get worse with Johnson. This country is ****ed. The opposition have three very different agendas. The SNP want independence The Liberal Democrats want power. The Socialists just hate the ****ing Tories.
Shock tactics are needed in an attempt to get some people to actually realise the dangers of losing the nhs. Make sure that everyone knows how much it could cost them, individually, to insure themselves for basic medical care. I might be wrong, but I think I read that the cheapest and most basic would cost £7800.00 per annum. People need to be asked if they can afford to pay that because it might come to that in a few years time, and back it up with death stats from the USA for people unable to afford to see a doctor or pay for prescriptions.
I remain astonished how childlike and clumsy some of the Lib-Dem and Labour responses, postures and actions are. So full of glee about their triumphs over the Braying Blonde Beast of Brexit, they are not even looking to the middle never mind long game.
Delays that stop a no deal exit force more scrutiny of the WAB and possibly make a new referendum more likely are only a good thing, Oh and that's our delay party over here in The Hague definitely on, there will be beer.
Britain after Brexit: A small part of me wants Brexit to happen so that when the **** hits the fan all the lies will be exposed and the Tories will disappear from the face of the earth. Trouble is, I know that even in the short term so many lives will be destroyed, so it has to be stopped.
I agree with the sentiment Chilco, but am of the opinion that most of the lies have already been exposed, yet the Tories still have a fighting chance to win the next election anyway...our brainwashed population could probably be manipulated into believing that any **** that happens is somebody else's fault, such as the EU, or remainers, and this would further justify the Brexit lie to its supporters about us being better off out... Worrying times because I haven't seen any way to prevent BJ from simply not allowing the WAB to be debated until after an election. If he wins said election, he could gain the numbers to prevent any amendments... I hope I've missed something that has happened, that forces the WAB to be debated and agreed before an election but if I haven't then we are still no closer to escaping either the WAB as it stands being passed by a majority tory government post election or even a further watered down version being forced through with additional Tory proposed amendments stripping even more regulation and rights. I'm worried because the LibDems seem to be back to party politics and have delusions that they can form a government, and the Labour party seems to be intent on eating itself, helped by the incredible media bias against Corbyn.
I started reading and thought you were crazy for even wanting a small part of you wanting Brexit, but you reeled it back in. BTW, I've had that thought but never let it fester.
On Facebook, I try to guilt trip people who I know have voted Leave, by sharing this type of thing with the message “God help our children and grandchildren”. I don’t think enough of the older generation, that voted Leave, have considered that they won’t necessarily be on the planet for long enough to be badly affected by their decisions and that their descendants will be the ones paying the price. I don’t know if it is working, but I sure as hell am not going to let it go.
I like this. Perhaps they should use the sides of buses as well. I don’t think anyone has tried that before. https://scramnews.com/anti-boris-johnson-adverts-planted-london-underground/
I am very pleased that I am old because I wont have to live for too long in the **** world the Tory wreckers will have created post Brexit. I am also pleased that those parts of the country that voted Brexit are likely to be hit hardest by its consequences and that is just what they deserve for believing Farage and Johnson. ****ing foolish idiots. A part of me though worries that at the very time I will most need the NHS the Tories will have totally dismantled it. You may say that I sound selfish and vindictive - well welcome to the new world created by the UKIP and the ERG and an opportunist, lying, bribing, threatening, destructive, megalomaniac of a PM.
That's why boris didn't just ask for a 1 week extension when he got the deal and go through normal parliamentary procedures that would probably have got brexit through next week with the numbers he has. There's nowhere near the numbers in parliament to amend a referendum onto his brexit bill. If he asks for unreasonable things and the opposition refuse he can blame it on them and win support from the public. He's really good at playing Brexit supporters.
