Libby It probably isn't the time to be too confident tonight but I think Saints are a good proposition for a coach that knows what they are doing. There is quality in the squad but I feel the coaching does not appear to be up to scratch at the moment and the defence obviously needs to be totally rebuilt. I much admit that I was hugely confident about this season in May and had expected that Ralph would get the support to bring in the playing staff necessary to overcome the apparent issues. I still think Djnepo and Adams will come good and the midfield is decent enough on it's day. We have massively underachieved this season and this is largely due to the fact that the defensive problems were not addressed and that we have been continually playing people out of position. We should be a good prospect to manage and it is a shame that no one in the club seems to have the ability to make the right managerial appointment at the right time and move coaches on in the period from Pardew to Koeman. Saints should be appointing someone with ability but I feel it is the workings within the club that will be the problem in attracting someone. I would not want another BFS but making appointments of unfamiliar and untested managers from weaker European leagues is something that is not working out.
Hi FLT, thanks to you and the others for their best wishes. The cocktail of drugs through the drip have settled her down - bloody scary how quick it happened. Its 2.20am here, she is asleep in her hospital bed, we are all awake and l am still trying to comprehend how any EPL team could have conceded 9 goals in one game.
I just mean we've lost a lot of management positions in recent months who haven't been replaced, and that those people would have normally been involved in a manager search.
I don't think it matters. A manager might get a little bit of a response, and with some good fortune maybe we survive again, but the rot is so deep that it's probably just a matter of time before we go down unless we have top-down changes, and we simply are not in a position to thrive in the lower leagues. Either Gao sells up or things get ugly.
Yeah I get that mate and have always made my thoughts clear on Gao. I was just thinking more immediately as we don't even have the people in place to appoint a manager should Ralph walk.
Ralph's got the dreaded vote of confidence www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/17994970.southampton-will-stick-manager-ralph-hasenhuttl-despite-reports-will-sacked/
I don't want him to go, but I think he will walk now. Give it another couple of huge losses against City in the next two games, and we will be in the bottom three with no manager.
I have absolutely no idea. I don't think we have the personnel to grind out 1-0/0-0s, and I don't think we have the talent or focus to be a swashbuckling team for long before everyone gets too scared of the mistakes at the back to keep driving forward.
Also, Libby, you asked a couple weeks ago if it was time for a Bleak and Awful Matchday Thread...I think that time might have come.
Really hope we dont sack Ralph. I dont think there is a manager we could get that would sort this mess out as it is. We need the board to remove the dross asap (Carrillo, Ely, Forster, Lemina, Stephens, Hoedt, etc.) And let a good manager (Ralph) reinvest properly.
