This is really poor and has been getting steadily worse.
Possibly understandable when we’ve been poor but after a 5-0 people need to have a look at themselves. Gets hard to blame players for not caring when the support seems not to.

Mystifying that folks main aim at a match is to get home early. I know some of it is due to the awful traffic management in the surrounding area but surely it’s not too desperate with 28k . What’s it going to be like if we ever get back to 49k - or is that what the monorail’s for?

It doesnt help they are in the Gods where the acoustics of the roof send a wave of noise down. Absolutely w*nk idea putting them there. Atmosphere was poor last night but I will accept that every game for the same result.

As far as I remember moving them up there marked a turning point in both results and the atmosphere gradually going down the ****ter. There's almost something like a feeling like they can do what they want and we can't do anything about it because they're too far away.

Also like you say the roof is amplifying them, hadn't thought of that, end result being that unless we're winning we're usually out sung by just a handful of people and often even when we are winning.

I don't think it has anything to do withe where the away fans are.. they were moved up there in the fist place because they regularly out sang the Sunderland fans.. We just badly need more people to be proactive in backing the lads at home and it wouldn't matter where the away fans are..

Rarely heard the away fans when they were adjacent to the home fans. I fully accept away fans are generally a noisy bunch but I think where they are now has everything to do with it.

Think majority if not all english clubs have a poor home atmosphere, but id never question the home support based of that narrative.

We have one of the loyalest home supports in the country not many clubs have a core base like ours the last 10 years have been horrific in the majority and to still churn out 30k plus is remarkable.

Thing is though we used to have loyalty, numbers and noise, now it's just the first two. It's better than what a lot of clubs manage but I think it's a shame. I do also think it'll come back when we've shaken off the lingering misery of the years before Donald took over.

I thought they were moved up there because of the mass of empty seats near the pitch as a result of how few most teams were bringing up into the away section

There’s a standard run of songs which all away teams seem to have the same sheet. “Sunderland’s a ****hole”, “is this a library” & “your support is ****ing ****” seem to be the most common ones. At least teams seem to have forgotten that Adam Johnson played for us!!

Ironically, they started singing “you only sing when you’re winning” then, within 30 seconds, started singing “2-0, and you still don’t sing” tak about a contradiction

Crazy corner was tremendous when the away fans were down there. I personally think moving them killed the atmosphere which the home fans created

When Aldridge subbed Clint Hill down there in the FA Cup after he had been sent off.

I can't understand why some seem to need to be next to away fans to support the lads.. This was not the case in Roker park when the Fulwell End was at its best..

Don't agree...why do think the clock stand paddocks and latterly the Main Stand Roker Wing seats become so popular and in the case of the seats become the main focus of atmosphere at RP.

As i said, when at its best.. Atmosphere at Roker died a death once people started to want to be near away fans from mid eighties onwards..

Should put a PA system at the back of the south stand and not tell anyone then get it blasting out random 'songs' that last 45 mins.... bit like the flags, create an artificial atmosphere to promote an actual one. (not criticizing the flags by the way I love it)
PA system would have to be a standard where you could actually hear what was being sung and could set the right sort of tempo :emoticon-0102-bigsm
