I work in an industry that can be quite cyclical and so often have to be where to work is, which means being away in the week.

I don't find it that bad, but have missed some stuff with my kids that I definitely regret missing.

I just make up for it when I am there though, so I'm coach of a couple of junior football teams, do cricket I summer, have season tickets with my sons, go on road trip holidays and such like.

It's my youngest, my daughter, I've missed out on most. I missed her birth by an hour as at the time I was freelancing during the last recession so couldn't just take the day off. I've also worked away on and off pretty much since then.

Not ideal but it is what it is though, I need to make a living, simple as that.

Jacking it all in to stack shelves or something would not work. A man with a family needs money to use, it's that simple.

I like that mantra. I earn a fair whack self employed but i don't really spend it as I'm not really into my designer goods, fashion or expensive stuff.

Don't know why I'm working tbh, mainly the missus. Would love to go on more holidays (with or without her) so should probably put my foot down there.

If i really had my choice i would probably do a comm for 15 years then end up like matth living at home in my mums restaurant. I could live with that
