Remainers don't have to read all 100 pages. Same as this country, one person reads the lot then tells the rest what they should think, and they do.
The YouGov link is an article, as is the Independent. They interpret the figures. The Lord Ashcroft link is interesting: A majority of those working full-time or part-time voted to remain in the EU; most of those not working voted to leave. More than half of those retired on a private pension voted to leave, as did two thirds of those retired on a state pension. Among private renters and people with mortgages, a small majority (55% and 54%) voted to remain; those who owned their homes outright voted to leave by 55% to 45%. Around two thirds of council and housing association tenants voted to leave. A majority (57%) of those with a university degree voted to remain, as did 64% of those with a higher degree and more than four in five (81%) of those still in full time education. Among those whose formal education ended at secondary school or earlier, a large majority voted to leave. White voters voted to leave the EU by 53% to 47%. Two thirds (67%) of those describing themselves as Asian voted to remain, as did three quarters (73%) of black voters. Nearly six in ten (58%) of those describing themselves as Christian voted to leave; seven in ten Muslims voted to remain. The AB social group (broadly speaking, professionals and managers) were the only social group among whom a majority voted to remain (57%). C1s divided fairly evenly; nearly two thirds of C2DEs (64%) voted to leave the EU. From the Electoral role how can they find this out? I certainly didn’t give anyone any of that information. So they asked a sample of people and then extrapolated the answers they got to apply to everyone. Let me give an example in case you never watched Yes Minister. In Leeds you ask a group whether they work or not then whether they support Leeds. From the results you will probably be able to say that more people in Leeds support Leeds Utd than work. For Man Ure you’d probably have to do it in London Polls depend on who you ask and what you ask. The only Brexit Poll that I trust is the one that polled nearly 34m voters, not just people but those eligible to vote. If you compare the figures in the polls posted they are quite different so a judgement has been made.
the YouGov ‘article’ was their own summary of the findings of their own poll. There are numerous ways polling companies Find out age and demographic info...they create registries of respondents and ask them! There are existing sources like census’. Of course the numbers are done on a sampling basis, and they use statistical methods to assess the degrees of accuracy of the chosen methods. They stratify and select people specifically to get a balanced profile that they can then extrapolate. None of them are 100% accurate obviously, as recent elections have shown but they are accurate enough, particularly when it’s essentially a post-event poll like this... and all are saying the same thing and by a significant margin on the age factors. It seems you don’t want to accept the results because it’s not what you want to hear. Though why it should bother you that the results show that older, Lower ‘class’, lower educated people were the mainstay of the leave vote is beyond me. What difference does it make? - it is what it is... everyone’s vote counts the same. and yes I watched yes minister... great program
I agree. As a separate comment, it pisses me off that pensioners voted to leave. It feels to me like people who decided the risks to themselves were low and so - what the heck, let’s vote to indulge our instincts and to hell with the car workers who will lose their jobs. As a pensioner myself, I’m aware I am largely bomb proof if the doom predictions turn out to be right. (Other than inflation soaring, which would hurt some pensioners).
As a pensioner as well I can only say that the reason I voted to leave was I genuinely felt that it was in the best interests of the uks future On a ageist theme ask 1000 20 year olds what Brexit is all about and I would suggest 900 will not have a clue
I disagree that it’s their own summary of their findings, it’s an opinion. You say that I don’t want to accept the results because they’re not what I want to hear but I actually dismiss their extrapolated judgements because they have manufactured figures from their poll. Where were the polls held? It’s actually quite rich maligning me for not accepting the judgement on a survey when you can’t accept the actual result of an actual vote using actual people that was the biggest sample we’ve ever had. As far as pensioners go, over 65s were all of voting age in 1973 and we voted to stay in the common market so maybe YouGov should be asking them what has changed their mind.
Immigration - we are a small island with a population nearing that of Germany. Not all migrants are doctors and nurses, the vast majority are in low paid work; washing your car, delivering your parcels or pizzas, working in construction, cleaners etc. Our roads are gridlocked, our rents are sky high and prices are inflated due to demand, our public services are struggling to cope, our education system needs to adapt to even more languages being spoken. You may say that it’s the Government’s fault, well vote them out. You may say that immigrants contribute more than they take. How do they know? They don’t know how many are here. Living in the South East I think the figures for nett migration are incredible. They’re the same ones who say that EU migrants are all doctors and nurses. If you don’t see any of this then wait for it, you will. This is not only a problem in the UK, it’s all over Europe. It was such a problem in Germany that Eastern European drivers were driving in Germany on pittance wages and taking all the freight work that the Government specified a minimum wage for any driver driving a truck in Germany. Politicians don’t see the problems because, nowadays politics is a career itself, the vast majority have never worked. The rise of Populism in the Netherlands, France, Italy and Germany shows that the public are getting fed up with it. If this makes me racist then you don’t understand racism.
Like wanting national service to be introduced and not having an NHS and tuition fees and decent welfare state and decent house prices. Here are some things we had that we don't think you should have for the rest of your lives whilst we nip off and enjoy our retirement. Thanks Boomers. Sooner we introduce compulsory national service for over 65's the better.
Dumb ****ing Boomers voted in Thatcher who introduced that and spawned the admiration and likes of Johnson, Cameron and JRM etc which got us into mess we're in today. Still just 8 days to go until Boris dies in a ditch and can't start reversing on all that ****....
Apparently the EU have accepted the letter requesting an extension (courtesy of the Bull and Bullshiite Corporation). While they've accepted the letter, no vote has been taken on it, but Tusk, a staunch corrupt EU MP, and even stauncher follower of Soros said he would recommend the 27 member states grant the extension. What's interesting is, EU law states the EU only deals with Sovereign Governments, and the Government made it clear to the EU they did not request the extension, nor do they want one........So, are the EU breaking their own laws?......baring in mind the remoaning colluders who went to Brussels to commit treason against the people behind the Governments back. Juncker has already said there will be no prolongation, it's also been said the extension, if granted can only happen if Boris gives a decent enough reason. If 1 member state votes against the extension, we are out of the EU on 31st October, no ifs, no buts and with no deal. Article 50, and EU law states a deal is not required to leave the EU, but, if a deal cannot be agreed, leaving with a no deal becomes the default exit. I've heard no one, including BBC talk about a deal is not required, I wonder when it will raise it's head, if it does.
