Also, a very reputable firm of accountants would have to be either:

a. too stupid to notice money going out the door when doing an audit; or
b. dishonest.

Neither is impossible. Both are, however, very unlikely.

 

"Wednesday morning has now revealed what personal profit Mike Ashley has made from transferring the lease from NUFC and then selling it on.

The MASH (where all of Ashley’s shareholdings are brought together, including his 100% ownership of Newcastle United) accounts belatedly released and including the line:

‘After the reporting date, a contract was entered into, to sell the land owned by Strawberry Place Newcastle Limited for a consideration of £9m.’

So having bought the lease/land for £6m from the club, Mike Ashley has sold it on for £9m, making a personal £3m profit."

Pretty "cast iron" what he is doing there, wouldn't you agree?

 

I can't see where it says he bought it for £6m. Even so, this still doesn't amount to him taking money out of the club.

 

Buying and selling land is pretty basic business is it not. He's a bad football club owner and a greedy business man.

People act like Mike Ashley is particularly worse than any other London based tycoon. He isn't, he's pretty standard. I think some of the conspiracies are absolutely laughable sometimes.

 

As pointed out above, he's as horrid as a 4 week old puppy, compared to Abramovic. I remember Matthew Syed on Sky Sports calling out Roman for using his blood money to fund Chelsea, whilst the PL and various FA's turned a blind eye. Syed wasn't allowed back on - I think they brought Paul "Merse" Merson in instead, to offer his typical-fan level analysis. Nobody wants to know that Abramovic was given stolen land by Putin, which made him - and therefore Chelsea FC - unfathomably rich. Nobody wants to hear how Abramovic gained favour with everyone's favourite dictator. Similarly nobody wants to hear about the human rights atrocities involving migrant workers in the Middle East. Rather they just employ Pep and let Merse knock one out on screen about the awesomeness of Man City.

It's crap like the web and Twitter - everyone feels so bloody entitled. Even the thick have an opinion - which is almost always wrong. People can rage at Mike about the right things - stupid decisions, Joe Kinnear, etc. - but some of the accusations just make ALL fans look stupid.

 

By underselling the land to himself he has effectively stolen from the club - of that there is no doubt. I have seen locally an estate agent lose their job and end up in court for underselling a probate property to a family member by £20,000 while the company that employed the agent is being sued for close to £100,000. There is NO WAY on ****ing earth that land escalated 50% of its value in the space of a few years between him selling it to himself from the club and then onto a property developer so he has knowingly undersold it to himself from the club - unfortunately though it is his to do as he pleases with but if you don't consider that blatant short-changing the club in the search of a quick buck I hope you are robbed of all your worldly possessions and contract hepatitis A-Z from a dirty syringe.

I don't care about Chelsea's owner because he isn't ****ing over the club I care about, much like I don't care for the other 90 League clubs chair-people and what they do at their respective clubs - apart from Donald Duck down the road who is doing a fantastic job!

 

I agree ! they are saying oh well he's not the worst or no worse than the others, but what ****ing difference does that make? none! none whatsoever.

 

It makes a difference because fans are often inventing faults and pretending he is easily the worst owner in the league, or the only one who does things underhanded.

These things aren't true, and the contrary needs to be pointed out. I hate the man, but pretending a self made billionaire is hellbent on extended conspiracies so he can earn a proxy £3 million pound is just laughable.

 

A conspiracy is something that can't be proven with fact's - feel free to do the research yourself on companies house to disprove the £6m figure as I CBA but I doubt news companies can just pluck figures like this out of thin air...

This is turning into an argument about definition of terms.

If you are saying that Mike Ashley is making a profit from owning NUFC, no one is disagreeing. There is the property sale you refer to, free advertising, the general prestige an profile that comes with owning a PL club etc.

What many fans have been saying (perhaps not you, I haven't checked) is that funds are being secretly siphoned out of the club. That is the theory which Wor Welshie, Roland Deschen and I say is unfounded and unlikely to be true given the importance given to audited financial statements.

 

I don't care we are **** at football and have been for every season bar 1 in 13 years , so I want him out for football reasons.

 

These are the key here - I don't think anyone believes its being done secretly in the slightest, he is simply so brash and in your face about it it doesn't feel like theft and deception and for Ashley it is like taking candy from a baby.

The problem is the vast majority of fans getting on Sky Sports or taking to the Tw@ttersphere ARE saying he's trousering great swathes of money on the sly. "Where's The Money, Mike" has seen a lot of airtime.

It's not a defence of Ashley - when he does these media appearances, I'd rather he were hounded for his abysmal decision making that led to two relegations and subsequently smashed to pieces our revenue opportunities. Comparisons to Tottenham are somewhat skewed, because of London, but mainly because of his decisions. However, what he's not here for is to make money from the club, at least directly. He just wants what's best for SD, always has, always will. That's where all his money is, all his interest is, so it stands to reason he will do whatever it takes to promote SD. Fans constantly getting on high horses and soap boxes to bleat on about the money disappearing should just stfu, go to the matches and support the team.
