Exactly!!! I hear that Bamba was immense today and had Mackail-Smith in his pocket all game! great to beat the top team, keep a clean sheet.....we are getting there slowly but surely!! Well done Sven. Maybe the moaners will take a week off. well until wednesday when we put out our reserves in the cup
I was calling for St. Ledger to come in today over Bamba I admit. St. Ledger was warming up with the team and on his own prior to kick off but yet he wasn't even on the bench I admit Bamba was class today and saved us a few times. I have nothing against Bamba and as an individual he has been quality so far this season but we a better defensive unit and thought Mills and St. Ledger might work better. Happily I admit I was wrong. Hopefully now we have a clean sheet we can push on
Mills first half was dodgy but second half won everything in the air - total opposite to last week at Barnsley when he was ****e
I've been concerned about Bamba's unnerving and spontaneous displays and how it disrupts the defensive unit. However, yesterday Big Sol was immense and did what he's paid to do - defend. It helped Mills who looked far more assured.
I don't think anyone wanted Bamba dropped because he's poor. It was suggested that Mills may play better alongside a more conventional CB...Bamba can be a bit unpredictable and likes to get forward. But in fairness, Mills is just going to have to get used to Bamba as they're the best two CBs we have. They seemed to work well together yesterday, so maybe they're finally starting to click.
Mills and Bamba are the best 2 individual defenders we have no doubt about it. All I was saying is that Mills and St. Ledger might be a better defensive partnership.
The challenge for Sol Bamba now is consistency. We've seen him produce that kind of performance before but what we need now is for him to produce that kind of performance for 5 games on the bounce and find that consistency that can see him ranked amongst the best in this division.
On Saturday Bamba did the right things for once. When he needed the hoof the ball he did and when he could play it he did. Before he would play himself into trouble
