Not really, always thought their goal was to try and bring the city to a standstill to force the governments hand into doing something about climate change. Bringing the city to a standstill involves stopping people going about their normal lives for a day or 2 for "the greater good". I may be wrong about their goal. I haven't really looked too much into them.
Going home today after a lovely ( and much needed ) 5 day break in Iceland . Didn't see any whales or northern lights , and today the cloud is crystal clear....
Amazing place, we went for 5 days November last year. Drove all over the island. Didn’t see the northern lights as it was full moon when we went.
One of my top five top life moments is seeing our planets light display. Cannot put into words how amazing it is. I'm not religious, but I felt blessed.
On the plane coming home my wife sat next to a young girl from Taiwan who had been there for 12 days and not seen them !
Its incredibly rare for the visitors. The first night I was there I stayed up later than the other villa guests/fam. Having a glass of wine outside alone, I spotted this weird colour cloud in the sky, although very small, like a wisp. I immediately donned my boots & coat and went marching into the darkness. Up and up I went, until the furthest light was gone, and the swirl never changed. Then I felt the sting of the cold. All alone, no phone, very ill prepared I made my way back as quick as possible feeling rather stupid (quite bloody dangerous thinking back). The next evening, my family and me were treated to the most amazing murmuration of light I've ever witnessed, it grew bigger and brighter as the night went on. I still think I saw the start the night before, but seeing it with my children was so much more amazing. I'll be eternally grateful for that bucket list item.
I said to my children that they'll remember this moment more fondly as years pass, but they haven't caught up with that pearl yet. But they will.
This is genuinely exciting regarding artificial carbon capture: Scientists Create a Material That Captures CO2 And Turns It Into Organic Matter. https://www.sciencealert.com/scient...-that-converts-co2-into-useful-organic-matter
And well done to The Guardian for putting its money where its mouth is: https://amp-theguardian-com.cdn.amp...d-pledges-to-reach-net-zero-emissions-by-2030 The Guardian Media Group will become carbon neutral by 2030.
Seems it’s reliant on more than just clear skies then ? You must have seen the moss covered Lava from the 1996 eruption then ? Amazing when our guide said don’t walk on it , you may be there one minute then vanished the next .
Was lucky enough to see them in Lapland a couple of years ago. Amazing experience! Photo a bit grainy, sorry .....
You want the sky as clear and dark as possible. So also check the lunar calendar before you book if you want the best chance of seeing them.
