    Have you ever noticed how in both codes some trainers regularly seem to get their horses leniently treated when going handicapping. I am going to look more into this but on the flat the one that springs to mind is Roger Varian. How many times does he manage to get a horse well handicapped that lands a nice plot in very decent handicap company. The conspiracy theorist in me wants to put this down to him having a "good" relationship with the handicapper.
    The most obvious example of this in the National Hunt sphere in my view is Philip Hobbs. His runners regularly attract the comment on RP or ATR that they could be "leniently treated". Two such animals today;
    WESTEND STORY 3:15
    MCNAMARAS BAND 3:50
    We shall see how they go.

    what a cynic. Hobbs has a 15% strike rate in handicaps which is interesting compared to Nicholls 16% and Hendo 15%.

    Dr. Newland over the sticks - some of his are very leniently treated.

    thats mainly because he buys them when they’ve already been handicapped elsewhere isn’t it?

    Archie Watson. 26% strike rate first time in a handicap.
    So either he is "cheating" or the handicapper treats him kindly.

    You are right about Newland. That is taking other peoples horses and training them better. Dan Skelton and Olly Murphy are also pretty adept at doing this. Back in the day the Bests were masters at the art but I know they targetted a group of trainers who they believed didnt get their horses fit enough to do themselves justice. They would follow a horse for a couple of years and go to the track and check its condition at close quarters.

    Sometimes but not always. I remember last season one of his chasers being put up something like 3 lbs for winning a Grade 3 and then bolting up next time out. Or something like that. Struck me as very lenient at the time.

    hi fellas!

    uttoxeter,2 10:

    ACE VENTURA could go well,if raising his game a bit more.showed a bit last time out,and the horses in front of him that day have held the form up quite well.take into it his flat background(ex-varian horse),where he did quite well,and he appeals a lot today.e w value

    yes,well done to you too.surely one to watch next time out.

    fakenham,3 00:

    a tight little race,where all hold some sort of chance,but a marginal vote goes to REDZOR.apart from a blip on his last start,he didnt do too much wrong in novice hurdles,and always interesting,when connections switch to fences pretty soon.especially his head second to champagne well a few starts back is a very good piece of form.so,if he jumps well,should be involved today..
