Sunday tea times with the family as a youngster- the only meal time we didn’t eat at the kitchen table. Watching the tv series was a string childhood memory for me.

Steve Jobs would have made a better president than Donald Trump...

But that’s comparing apples to oranges.

The European Investment Bank [EIB] Heads meet today to determine whether or not they should continue to fund oil and gas companies with billions of dollars. A potential cut in funding could mean a massive victory for eco-friendly groups, as it would bring an end to direct financial support from the EIB to the main contributors to the climate crisis: oil and gas companies.

In 2018, the bank supplied companies in the gas and oil sector with €2.4 billion for projects. If the EIB decides to begin pulling funding from petroleum-based projects, it could pave the way for eco-friendly options to receive financial backing. The EIB’s staff has proposed an end to providing gas and oil companies with funding, a project that would go into effect in 2020. However, resistance is expected to be encountered by governments who still believe in the use of fossil fuels: Germany and Italy to name a couple. Look out for announcements in the coming days. This could be a huge turning point.

"There is no profit to be made in All-Electric vehicles and there is no demand for them."

I couldn't begin to tell you how many times I have seen, heard and read those words in the last 20 years since I have been more closely following the rise of non-FF vehicles. In the last 5 years those calls have become louder and louder, as they are gradually being de-bunked.

It's quite obvious the demand is there. Simple economics for the consumer is pushing demand in that direction. If people have sufficient finance to buy a BEV they will buy it because they cost a pittance to run and maintain. We'll put aside that they are more fun and safer for everyone's health. Just put a flexible pipe on the end of a running FFV and bring it into the driver's cabin and do the same with a BEV. Oh, I forgot, you won't find one on the BEV.

But is there a profit? Let's put aside Tesla. They aren't a trad auto-maker, and their vehicles have 30% gross margins, which they use to invest in massive growth of the company. So they've only made a profit once in a while. That will change.

Carlos Ghosn, once CEO of Nissan and still of Renault, says there is a profit in BEVs, but that's it. The other big players, like Honda, Fiat, Ford, GM [very quietly because they make the Chevy Bolt which they lose money on], Mercedes, BMW, and anyone else I can think of, say there's no profit in them yet. The loudest voice is Toyota, and they are the second biggest car company in the world. Sometimes the biggest - which they battle out with Volkswagen. But VW are in a new position. Their reputation is currently on the floor with the new vehicle concerned buying public.

And they've now broken ranks: https://electrek.co/2019/10/15/vw-electric-cars-hurt-profit-margins/

It's one thing for Nissan and Renault to say it. They've always said it, so it carries little weight. But when the biggest vehicle manufacturer in the world says it, people who make policy are going to sit up and listen. And VW may well yet restore their tarnished reputation.

very exciting for me. Sir Phillip Pulman's new Dust book is out and the BBC will be airing the original trilogy in a series of 8, 1 hour episodes. Only books I've ever read twice! They're like kids books that are just too damn clever for me!

I've heard that XR have been banned from London due to apparent sexual abuse threats made against some politicians by one/some of their members.

    Disgusting.

Verifiable source(s) please. "I've heard that" is total bollocks, snidey inuendo. Smacks of Barclay brothers, Rothermere and Murdoch propaganda or Cambridge Analytica possible Cummings. Piss or get off the pot, put up or shut up and retract.

I've heard agent provocateurs have been inciting violence and similar whilst mascurading as XR. I'll post sources later. My daughter and her partner have been involved from the start.

There's also been photos in various media of what was alleged to be a mess left by XR. In fact stock photos of different events printed to discredit XR. More ****ing bollocks for the deluded and gullible to suck up without question.

    Wrong thread mods?

Someone at work mentioned it who was involved in the last lot of protests, no idea if it's true or not but thought it was worth sharing.

I think it's ****ing irresponsible to post uncorroborated accusations. Don't you think if it had happened it would have been plastered everywhere? It's "someone in the pub said" level of gossip. I'll talk to my daughter and do some research later.

In the meantime this should be moved to the politics thread. It's an example of how unfounded **** gets spread.

I just found it an interesting response when I asked why they weren't there this time round.

**** off with your flippant remarks it's my family and an organisation I'm involved with you're posting this unsubstantiated malicious bullshit.

What response your colleague's? Interesting if you had asked where their info came from. Will you do that?
