Racing today from Hamilton and Fairyhouse on the flat plus 2 jumps meetings at Plumpton and Uttoxeter. 3.30 Plumpton Herschel (NAP) Almsot a year ago to the day Herschel won a 2m class 3 handicap hurdle at Plumpton off a mark of 111 on good/form going. This dual purpose horse was then put away for the winter and since his return to the track in May he has been disappointing, dropping down the weights on the flat (69, 67, 64) and over hurdles (119, 115, 112). Looking at his form the last 2 seasons he has only managed to get his head in front at the back end of the season and I think he takes plenty of getting fit. Back over 2m, good/firm at Plumpton and today off 110 I think he can take this at a juicy 10/1. Best of luck to everyone
3 for me today....the usual singles, doubles & treble. 2.10 - Irrational Beat Half a Billion on debut and with that horse running consistently off a mark of 73, Irrationals 69 might be a tad lenient, with expected improvement to come. 2.30 - Arab League Decent on the flat, now with one of the best NH trainers in the country, should go well 2.40 - Savanna days Improving with every run, hope to get off the mark @ 4th attempt _ Also got a treble on the footy ---> Man city, Spurs & Man Utd Goodluck All
2.40 Hamilton: SPIRIT NA HEIREANN 8/1 Cannot help but think that the market has got this all wrong with the Johnston horse as short as 2/1. SNH has shaped really well so far and is bred to appreciate this extra furlong (I note a lot of improved showings from horses by Dubawi when they go up in trip). She was in a couple of pretty warm maidens there and I'm hoping she will stay on late to tackle the Johnston favourite. She has been outpaced in her first two starts, so the slower ground and extra yardage are seen as positives. Must be worth a chance at 8/1
Oddy, I think you might be on to something with Herschel, possibly a bit of a touch. I've noticed he has followed a similar prep to his win in July 2010 (random flat races to get him fit) and then drop him back over the sticks. Also, he won last September when making all, whereas the last few runs they have held him up at the rear. I think they might have been looking to get the mark down and targeted todays race.
Hope so Toppy, just has a decent E/W at 8s on him. Also had a go on the placepot after coming so close at Ayr yesterday - just the 1 line today though, just for interest: 1 Bet @ £1.00 2:00 Plumpton Daddyow 2:30 Plumpton New Code 3:00 Plumpton Kristallo 3:30 Plumpton Herschel 4:00 Plumpton Clu Agus Cail 4:30 Plumpton Pobs Trophy
Cyc the one at Ayr paid 450 quid for a 1 pound stake yesterday. I just missed it by 1 leg Depends how many favs get placed etc, if a lot of short priced ones don't place then you can get a big payout. Sometimes it pays only about 30 quid tho
Hello lads and thanks for the thread Oddy. Nothing jumps off the form sheet today so a no bet day. My turbo shandy experiment is on hold after my wife suggested it probobly wasn't a good idea, given how inebriated I was yesterday. That's the gist of what she said. The full unedited version contained quite a few F bombs. GL with your selections guys.
What about a mugs double with two horses named after the same person...Raphael Santi 3.45 Curragh and Raffaello Santi 5.15 Curragh.
Hmmmmm Herschel a close-up 5th. A much better effort today and I can see him having one more run before the ground turns and think he could get the win next time. Just missed out on the place money
Should have hammered the scum at 10/11 when I saw who the ref was....dodgey free leads to an off side goal....nowt new there.
I bet CHIEF has had a good dig this afternoon Dan Dark, dank and miserable here in Berlin but I've got a nice roast chicken in the oven to brighten the mood
