Much better performance than Friday against a poorish side. Though in actual fact there is probably not that much difference between the opposition in Friday and yesterday, bearing on mind NI won there last night. Certainly, the performance was much improved under difficult circumstances, so great credit to all the players and management team for the way they handled the situation. I quite like Barkley in midfield and Mings had a good game, and he seems a switched on guy and spoke really well post-match.
Has anyone heard the Bulgarian manager's interview on itv post match? ****ing deluded is an understatement.
It's not that unusual in Eastern Europe for hooligan groups to be, shall we say affiliated to the police, military, politicians, or big business.
UEFA says it has opened disciplinary charges after England players were subjected to racist abuse during an away game in Bulgaria. The European football governing body has charged the Bulgarian Football Union with four offences: racist behaviour including chants and Nazi salutes, the throwing of objects, disruption of the national anthem, and replays on a giant screen. Two charges have also been brought against the English Football Association: disruption of the national anthem and an insufficient number of travelling stewards.
Not been to Bulgaria but been to Slovakia, Czech Rep, Slovakia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia and Russia. These are countries with an entirely different culture and history to our own. Different politics, different ideas to our own. It seems very naive to expect poorer less diverse countries and societies to have the same political agenda as our own. Whilst on the subject of differing cultures, I saw the baton happy spanish police beating the crap out of unarmed defenceless people on the ground at Barcelona airport on the news. That's how they deal with dissent over there. Don't expect it to be like our own country where the OB cavort with crusties on blocked roadbridges in the centre of the capital. Other countries are not like us in many ways and do not necessarily share our worldview or values. Worth remembering if you are travelling abroad.
Good win and sound display, after Friday, but we all know stiffer tests are just around the corner...! And that's all I have to say....Infact I'm not sure why I bothered!
Russia must have been hairy..I know some people who went there on business and they got arrested by two corrupt cops who parted them from about £50 on some bullshit charge.
That's nowt -in downtown Lokeren I had to ask in my pidgin belgian "Would you mind not directing your water cannon at me please?" To no avail.
I once got lost in a part of Brussels. It made Hessle Road of the 1970's look like Swanland and Kirkella rolled into one.
After what he said, and with the police arresting several people, he had little choice. Stupid saying something like that, when he should have known with cameras and microphones these days, it was bound to pick up what happened.
