Just to point out Right Tack and Brigadier Gerard did the Middle Park/ Guineas double too. Not sure if they are the only other ones. Middle Park winners used to be most fancied for the 2000G and Dewhurst winners for the Derby. Fashions change but they are just fashions.
Oh yes Rodrigo de Triano too. (Dante was the last Middle Park winner to win the Derby).

That simple comparison worked for me several years ago when some fiends went to the Derby and asked me for a tip. I told them Secreto. I had picked it out from Timeform's Racing Annual where they were all over El Gran Senor but I had noticed that Secreto , with the same sire, was better bred to stay the 12f. It was very close but Secreto just outstayed El Gran Senor to win. I was pretty chuffed

Possibly running in the Horris Hill on Saturday week - this from Sporting Life:

Beckett said: "Kinross is in great shape and he will probably go to the Horris Hill. That is the idea, all being well.

"He came to the table late in terms of his work at home, purely because he was a May foal.

"His starting price indicated it wasn't a surprise as not many of mine go off 3-1 for a Newmarket maiden on debut.

"There is plenty of stamina on the dam's side, but I suspect he will be more of a mile to mile-and-a-quarter horse."

Very impressive, has looked a quality horse all 3 runs, obviously handled the soft ground well, could be a very good stayer in the making, G2 class at least.

    Thanks.
I was impressed and looking forward thought he had a lovely pedigree for longer trips next season. Very early to be calling a Leger horse but......

Ive noticed over the last few years that very few of Becketts impressive 2yo winners tend to do much at 3 if they are even seen again, especially the ones that the money is down for 1st time out, stable obviously flying at the minute as well so probably best not to get carried away with any of his at the minute.

Agree. Last year was much the same with a shedload of winners in October. Unfortunately many flattered to deceive. But that's the way it goes sometimes.
Went to the 2yo Raceday at Newmarket last year and he had 2 winners. Will be going again and looking out for his.

Liked this debut and the same day was the victory by White Moonlight. Another horse was withdrawn that day, and that was Emissary. He came out and won on the AW a week later. He's a Kingman brother to Workforce and should be watched.

Though only 3rd I still think Wichita has a lot more scope than the likes of Pinatubo, and can see the O’Brien colt winning a classic next year, maybe in France

Quadrilateral is a brilliant filly, ground was softer than ideal for her and she was seriously impeded by Boomer hanging in front of her at a vital stage as Doyle had a clean run down the outside and was in top gear on Powerful Breeze. You need to be very good to win these races against horses with previous high level experience, Quadrilateral had only had an educational ride on debut and a public gallop in a novice event, the likes of Powerful Breeze and Love had already run in strong G1 and G2 races and that experience is definitely worth something. To overcome that and win I think tells you she is a bit special.

From Charltons comments and his training style, I think there is still much more to come, the fact that its his first 2yo G1 winner tells a story, he wont have done much with her at home and shes unbeaten in 3. She is a miler not an Oaks filly, she wont stay 12f, and if the ground is fast in May id be surprised if there is a filly around good enough to beat her, certainly none of the horses we have seen this year and its extremely difficult to win the Guineas without a solid 2yo foundation. 6/1 is an incredible price, she should be 3/1, and I intend to build up as much as possible on her at that price over the next few months.

Petite Mustique is in the Oaks betting at 33/1 and I think thats a cracking bet as well.

She is a full sister to Johannes Vermeer who was 2nd in a Melbourne Cup and 1m6 Listed winner Sapa Inca.

What a farce. The declarations for Saturday's Futurity are published and there are 12 entries.

11 of them are trained by AOB.

O'Brien had 24 of the original 35 entries for the race. It is pathetic that none of the big UK stables have any entries other than Andrew Balding's Kameko, who was touched off by Royal Dornoch in the Royal Lodge.

There is a general dearth of staying talent this season and Mogul is 4/6 for the Futurity despite looking nothing startling in the Beresford.

To answer Stick's earlier query, I think Pinatubo is unlikely to get 12F but he's not a forlorn hope. Earthlight has zero chance of getting the Derby trip in my obviously amateur opinion. Quite simply put, his style of running will not be suited to double the Middle Park distance and I don't think Epsom would suit him at all. Pinatubo has won at Epsom but the Woodcote win was not impressive and he seemed to win despite not liking the track very much.

No colt really catches my eye for the Derby but Andre Fabre's American Pharoah colt Ocean Atlantique spreadeagled his field on his second start at Saint Cloud over 1 mile on heavy ground and he looked a good staying prospect. Owned by the usual Coolmore suspects he could be a useful addition to the armoury.

In the Horris Hill Kinross opened at 7/4 with William Hill but is now a best price of 5/4. The ground at Newbury is soft-heavy in places and I would not want to play at 5/4 in such testing conditions. I had a small bet on Kenzai Warrior at 14/1. The Teal colt won on debut from Max Vega and that horse won his next two, including the Zetland Stakes. Proven at a mile, his stamina could be an asset and the son of Karakontie seems overpriced to me.

Sat 2.50 Newbury Kenzai Warrior 14/1

Evening Sun reappeared at Newmarket today and was much better behaved. He did pull for the first 2f, and got a bit lost 3f out. He ran on well up the hill to be a good 2nd to what looked a very useful Kingman colt called King Leonidas. He’s the one to take out of this race but I’m sure Charlton will get a win out of his colt.
In France Charlton took a Group 3 at Deauville with his 2yo filly Pocket Square: another from the Jock Whitney line for Juddmonte.
