He signed elyounoussi and carrillo which are two of the stupidest decisions possibly ever made at saints. Was also guilty of appointing Hughes and Pellegrino, or at least had a big hand. Carrillo was 24million euros wasnt he? Should have been sacked for any one of those decisions. Awful, awful, awful
Absolute bollocks. Look at the money we've wasted over the years as a result of poor recruitment. Carillio, Hoedt, Elyounossi, Lemina, Vestegaard, Armstrong. All expensive players on huge wages who we don't play. That's not the sign of a club with poor finances, that the sign of a club with poor recruitment with this man at the helm.
It's not bollocks. You're getting the wrong end of the stick once again. Ask yourself, who decides they want these players?
The manager obviously, and then Ross suggests some players he and his team have been scouting and picks out the best suitabilities. If the likes of Hoedt & Elyounoussi were the best of the suggestions then **** me, what have they been scouting? It's also not the manager who negotiates fees and wages ... that again is down to Wilson (and Reed). Poor finances on transfer is killing us as a club. Again, whose to blame there? That's nothing to so with the manager.
Well we haven't had the best of managers, since Koeman. Puel was OK, but a step down. Notice that the best transfers tended to occur with the better managers.
My view is that Ross Wilson can really only be blamed for the poor signings made since Les Reed left, as Reed was in charge for all the others.
That's because Koeman had Paul Mitchell as Director of Football. The summer of 2015 (VVD & Romeu aside) was hardly stellar. Remember Juanmi?
How could I ever forget ... Southgate you’re the one You still turn me on ... Oh you didn’t mean you and me? Sorry.
At best recruitment of players gives us a 50/50 success rate but during Wilson's time it was dramatically worse than that which is made worse because we have been buying more and more expensive players most of which have failed miserably
It's been a few years now of rubbish decisions, and they are catching up with us. I feel sorry for Ralph, I hope he sticks it out and doesn't get fed up with the lack of funds. This decision of who replaces Wilson could actually be quite a big one, it's vital that we sort out our recruitment.
didnt Juanmi go on to have a good stint in Spain? Definately up there with our best. A while ago, I did a list of the signings ....aaand there were a lot more bad than good. VVD said on tv that the only reason he came to saints from celtic was he wanted to work with koeman - no surprise. He also said the only reason he left was he's a greedy self serving twat. Pretty hard to refute such clear honesty.
It's not Wilson leaving that particularly bothers me (I am quite neutral on that)….it's the fact that there are so many changes without an evident plan. So many senior people leaving without clear replacements....smacks of staff cuts and people doubling up jobs. That's usually a bad sign in business. I am one of the least suspicious football fans ever, but something smells wrong.
Also, I have noticed Ralph looking less enthusiastic over the last few weeks. Or maybe that is because we are losing. Or maybe I am reading too much into it.
I have been worried about this since Danny Rohl left and we decided not to replace him as we could cope just fine with no assistant. Seemed really odd at the time - why would you not have an assistant manager in the day and age whereby there is more video analysis and research to be done than ever before.
I think we're ****ed to be honest. Why on earth would you want to come here? Whether it's this season or not, we're only going one way under Mr Gao.
Whilst it's difficult to know with any degree of certainty how culpable Wilson is for our recent transfer failures, I'm not shedding any tears at his departure. I'm much more interested in who we get in place. A decent, knowledgeable director of football, or head of recruitment (whatever job title you want to give them), can be worth their weight in gold. And could completely turn us around. If we're still in the PL. And if they are given the money to spend.
Don't worry, next time we'll definitely sell off the flops. We'll makes losses on them yeah, but we'll still recoup millions. We definitely won't be forced into having to loan them out again, or see their contracts run down. At least that's what I'm often told.
Even if we do manage to shift a couple of the loanees I can't see them bringing in anything substantial.
