Don't get me wrong, it's watchable. Just too slow for a film and a bit dull, not enough happens in it to make it worthwhile imo.
Watched Joker last week, and Judy at the weekend. Joker is good, dark and brooding, but some parts are lame. 4/5. Judy is ok for someone initiated to Judy Garland’s life (not me). 3/5 from the girlfriend, 2.5/5 from me.
I don't want to like this post but completely understand. Pepsi (cat) was put to sleep a few years ago. My lovely vet actually came out to the house because Peps was a terrible traveller and I honestly thought that he'd die of fright in the car if I took him to Brian. I was really surprised how quick and seemingly painless it was. Pepsi died in my arms and was purring to the last - the best gift I ever gave to him
I'm always behind the rest of the world in watching stuff - I've just started Hannibal and it's brilliant! I hate gore but so far there's only been one scene (with Eddie Izzard!!) which I had to turn away from. Really intense but intelligent TV and Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen and Laurence Fishburne are excellent.
Have a thought for Vets. My little girl loved animals. She wanted to be a Vet, she became a Vet. It's not a job for little girls who love animals. Constant abuse from pet owners mainly over the cost of treatment that she has no control over. She won't open her own surgery because the pet owners will know where she lives. Currently just over 3,000 PTS's. (put to sleep). Her partner, also a Vet, after 5 years gave it up
Decades ago, I read all the James Herriot books [they are really good reads - James Wight, the real Herriot wrote with a quick wit and flair], and back in the 1920s vets realised that there was proper money to be made in "small animals." James was a dyed-in-the-wool farm animal vet, and reluctantly got into small animals because it paid the bills rather better and gave them a decent lifestyle. But it brought its own problems. While farmers would see the potential vet's bill and get his animal bumped off in good time, so that the carcass might still be useful [a morale conumdrum for James who could see a path to the animal recovering], small animal owners dithered and wept, twisted and turned, with more thought to their own emotional contortions, rather than the pain and suffering that their pets were going through. And the odd vet would make hay from this. This was another conumdrum for James, who could see the path of relief for the animal. Thoroughly recommended books. Though it might put you off having pets.
My son is a senior veterinary nurse, and gets some of the same treatment SiS. He's a soppy animal lover underneath, but luckily is 6'2" and tough as nails so he copes pretty well - funnily enough customers don't push it too far with him because they spot the warning glint in his eyes and back down.
My daughter moved from an area where the threats were mainly physical to Cheltenham. Now she just gets threatened with being sued. Unfortunately she's not 6 ft 2 or even slightly scary.
My son has also had a few occasions where pet owners have asked for animals to be put to sleep because, drumroll...., ....they couldn't find a pet sitter or kennel space and they've got a holiday coming up. It beggars belief sometimes why some folk ever get animals in the first place
One of the reasons why I would require paid licences for people to have pets of any kind. Pets are far too often a whim which gets regretted or lumped with. There are simply too many pets, as people get an improved living by introducing more and more animals into the world as pets. It's not the way to go. For elderly people who really benefit from having a pet as company, I would encourage the activity and make sure the pet was properly catered for.
Further to my earlier post. The Oil industries may be in trouble sooner than they think: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/14/rise-renewables-oil-firms-decades-earlier-think Incidentally, if you type "Tony Seba" into Youtube, you'll find a hard edged expert who has been predicting the demise of FF power for some 10 years, and has been right on the money for his timeframe of predictions. Against almost every other analyst. Of course, he's not part of the FF industry.
Jeez, we do like EVs in the UK? Tesla now has 2.2% of the entire UK new car market. That's excluding all other plug-in vehicles, so the full percentage is even higher. No wonder seeing a new Model 3 is no longer sending me into a round of yeehaws [it gets a bit embarrassing anyway], rather than just making me smile. What is significant is that 2% is generally regarded as a fulcrum for tipping points in new technology disruptions [actually, just ordinary ones as well]. So the "cusp" has been reached and surpassed.
I did find this slightly ironically funny when I first heard about it. Porsche and Boeing have teamed up to design and produce a VTOL personal jet aircraft. Electric, of course. Someone suggested that Boeing could offer some pictures of their past aircraft as momentoes of the partnership, like the B17 and the B29. In contrast, Porsche could offer up the Panzer tank and V2 rocket. Things they all did in the good ol' days. I know. You have to be in the right mood. I was, but I'm not now. Anyway, the concept looks kind of cute: please log in to view this image
