Sorry for the delay in responding – haven’t been on since Friday lunchtime.
Had meant to do a write-up but then work intervened (how inconsiderate. I will speak to my union rep ASAP). Hey Jonesy had been available at 25/1 for the York race in the first part of last week but his price then collapsed somewhat due to the ‘flagship tipster’ (the publications words not mine) from the ‘The Weekender’ headline tipping the old boy at that mentioned price. I did back him each-way on Sat morn, but somewhat meekly, given that the price had somewhat ‘gorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn’. Disappointed again and ran no sort of race ultimately though. The only bright spot re that run is that Hey Jonesy may now get another ratings reduction (although sometimes when they run that bad the handicapper deems it ‘too bad to be true’ and makes no reduction at all).

Will that be it for Hey Jonessy and term 2019??? – I don’t know. But there is a Listed race at Doncaster on ‘November Handicap’ day which he was 2nd in last year and that may tempt connections again. Although of course if he does run well that day then his handicap mark could be shot to pieces for next season so that could prove very, very counter- productive indeed. He hasn’t though been put in the ‘Horses In Training’ Sale so from that I would conclude current connections are looking to continue with him re season 2020. Are they like me still thinking of the Wokingham and Stewards Cup?!? I remain convinced, though I’m sure several think otherwise, this is one of the very best handicapped horses in training. He just needs everything to come together one day – and when that does…whoooooooooooooooooooooosh!

I backed him on Saturday Barney..he ran a shocker..was really slowly away from the gates and never got in to it..clearly people are convinced a big run is due as the money keeps going down as his odds are often collapsing.. as you say a run at end of season might well save a hugely poor season.

Another I am keeping an eye on is Gunmetal. I am sure a big run from him is on the cards...but he needs better going than at present..he s not going to get good going right now. On a very attractive mark though and he s shown some promise in a few of his runs without hitting the frame.
