i was on carr lane the other day and noticed in passing the ebenezer morley pub (i was on a bus at the time) that it has at least one internal glass dividing wall that has on it etched images of THREE GHOSTS. so either someone in there is utterly stupid or i didn't see what i thought i saw. maybe it's for the easily-confused for halloween. anyone clarify? thanks.
Will there be a plaque for the Allams for destroying football in Hull anytime soon ? The Great Pox of Hull.
It looks like it's his neighbours house. That's a picture of 2-5 Garden Square, he lived at 10. http://hullhistorycentre.blogspot.com/2017/11/tell-world-ebenezer-cobb-morley.html
It's just from Old Hull Facebook page and having re-read the comment, it seems the poster was probably referring to him living in Garden Square, rather than that specific house.
I'd like to see one for Alan Hardaker, the secretary of the Football League when England hosted and won the World Cup and the man who introduced the Football League Cup. Born and lived on Boulevard and played for Hull City reserves.
Ebenezer Cobb-Morley's grave, it looks like it could do with some TLC... please log in to view this image
Hardaker went to Constable Street school, like me but I was long after him. As Football League secretary Hardaker displayed his unattractive brand of conservatism with his comment to a national newspaper that having to deal with ‘wogs and dagos’ was the reason he opposed English clubs entering international competitions. Probably not a good choice for a statue.
A very detailed bio here. Given an OBE and his attitudes were prevalent at the time. https://wikivisually.com/wiki/Alan_Hardaker
As I posted five years ago, a local man from a local family who made a significant impact on English football during his lifetime and a man more then worthy of a plaque or statue in his home city.
Or loosely connected in some way to rugby league ? Be a statue then and probably a main street or road named after him.
You mean like this one, on the wall at the Hull History Centre, that's car park is built over the house he was born in! A group of us from this forum tried to do something a few years ago without success. but to say he isn't honoured with a plaque isn't true. The club and council have taken active parts in recognising the part he played in modern football. please log in to view this image
