Another of the world's greatest sporting targets today crashed and burned at the hands of arguably the best ever marathon runner, Eliud Kipchoge, when he bested the 2 hour barrier. With the help of some of the premier runners in the world, the Kenya master stopped the clock in 1:59:40. The IAAF can't recognise the time as a record because the attempt wasn't a race and had pacers dropping in and out. But nobody can ever take away the credit he earned as the first man to break the barrier. <applause>

I hear a special track with a mild downhill slope and tailwind machines is being created to beat the 9.00 second 100 metres barrier!:emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl:

I understand that moves are afoot to break the first class (?) scoring record in a recognised national cup competition.

The 'hot balls' are being prepared to match Glasgow Rangers with Berwick Rangers; what could possibly go wrong!:emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl:

Just watching the highlights of the Ireland Samoa game and close ups reveal parts of the pitch are just rolls of turf that have just been laid and clearly not had time for the grass to bed in with the ground below. A scrum just decimates it. Big fuss about the hits around the head but can't be safe to put 16 blokes down in a scrum on moving carpet <doh>.

It looks as though we might be approaching a whole new frontier when it come to marathon running. Fresh after Eliud Kipchoge's brilliant sub 2 hour run, Brigid Kosgei has smashed the women's world record. It's still to be ratified, but stopping the clock in 2:14:04 was an amazing result.

I can't remember the details, but many moons ago I read that women were better able to adapt to distance events. I don't think they mentioned at the time that women would end up being faster than men in endurance events, but I do recall that the article said that women would rapidly close the game between the sexes. That statement has stuck with me for decades. So over time, I've kept half an eye on the situation. And sure enough, it's happening. And the women are closing in fast.

In the last 50 odd years, men have taken roughly 8 minutes off their record, while the women have taking a whopping 53 minutes off theirs. If Kosgei's time is ratified, there will now only 12:25 between the records.

Cristiano Ronaldo scores his 700th career goal in a 2-1 defeat to Ukraine. Whatever you think about him that is one hell of an achievement <applause>.

Was listening to Talkshite this morning. The presenters, Jim White and Natalie Sawyer, trying to make a phone in about the injustice of the festive fixtures with Liverpool due at Leicester at 8pm on Boxing Day because of Amazon Prime scheduling. These hypocritical fookers work or have worked for Sky for years, kuntz <doh>.

Well, feet up, sausage butty n a cuppa tea in hand, sit back and see if we can put one past our ole foe the Aussies... Should be a tight game but i think we' will have too much for them up front...

England to win by 10, though i wouldn't care if it was by 1pt in the end as long as we win...

Well done to the England rugby lads, bit of a demolition job in the end wasn't it...?? Close game up to half time, and when the Aussies went over to close the gap to 1 score then you might be wondering which way the game would go. But roll on 5 mins later and the England fans could almost sense that it was as close as the opposition would get.I though our back row forwards were brilliant, and dominated the middle of the park, the breakdowns and controlled the way the Aussies wanted to play...

The Aussies remind me of the French when you put them under pressure, they just pass the ball randomly, no set plan to their play and if it comes off you don't stop em. But today was not a passing day and they spilled the ball on far too many occasions. Can't see Cheika staying after this, and they might have to think about how to get their pack up to speed with the other nations in the rugby world...

The Irish or Kiwis up next... Bring em on as they say...!!

4 years ago the Aussie flankers, Pocock and Hooper, annihilated us. It felt like there was 2 each of them on the pitch, they were everywhere. Fair play to our flankers today, Curry and Underhill, they were immense. Both only in their early 20s too.

We are getting spanked.Ireland not helping themselves with so many unforced errors.I backed England to win the tournament but they will do well to beat these lads. Semi final should be a cracker.

**** me Kenny what are Bayern playing at? Letting Augsburg score in injury time to grab a point? Herr Rummenigge will not be happy.
