I always told my dad his pride would be the death of him. And sure enough, today he was eaten by his favourite lion.
f Ah yes, EV Man. Very down to Earth. Haven't watched this particular video but he will probably show a few things. 1] EVs have a higher ticket price than the equivalent FFV in the same range. Except that there is never an equivalent, because the EV will comfortably outperform the FFV in the same range. 2] Once you've bought it, the EV is way, way cheaper to own and run, because it barely needs servicing and its fuel is far, far cheaper, even if you can't charge it at home. 3] The more miles you do the cheaper the EV will be. It will also lose far less in value over time. It might even stop loosing value and start to regain it, depending upon demand, which is growing faster than current production. 4] In a few years time it will be a total money disaster buying or leasing a new or fairly new FFV vehicle. It will cost enormous amounts to run it. The tax and insurance will be relatively huge, and the sell-on value will be minimal to nothing. At some point in the future it will literally be "new-first-use straight to scrap." And way before then you won't be able to lease a car because the lease company won't be able to sell the FFV on for enough. 5] However clean new FFVs are capable of becoming, you always see the best figures one is capable of. In most everyday situations it is far, far worse, because most journeys are done with a cold engine that never quite gets warm - short journeys. Level 6 pollution figures occur somewhere on a motorway journey, at 56-60 mph, and that's about it. EVs don't have that problem. However, both FFVs and EVs cause pollution, and global warming, simply by being produced. But one almost stops directly after being built, especially if the re-charge is from renewable electricity, and the other one carries on pumping it out, getting worse with age.
Eliud Kipchoge has today become the first man to run a sub 2 hour marathon. A truly phenomenal achievement. This ranks alongside other great events in the history of mankind. First sub 4 minute mile................Roger Bannister First man to climb Everest..........Edmund Hillary First man on the moon................Neil Armstrong Pompey 0-4 Saints......................Danny Ings (2) Cedric Soares, Nathan Redmond. All of them "I can remember where I was when that happend" moments.
China is the country with the largest number of electric vehicles by a mile. However as a proportion of their population it is still relatively small, but growing like topsy. It's really hard to buy a ICE car in China now. You have to be either rich, stupid or completely unaware of what's happening, or all three. Norway, on the other hand, has set a target of zero new ICE vehicles sold by 2025. A race they are going to achieve easily. They are now selling so many new EVs as a percentage of overall sales that when fuel pumps come up for service they are now choosing to permanently remove them. This is just one photo, but it's happening all over Norway: And they've closed those few hydrogen stations too, that were previously being trialled. The only place where hydrogen stations now exist is in California and the Island of Oahu [Hawaii]. So what are you going to do now, Toyota, with your brand new 2021 FCV Mirai?
