Poch has done a fantastic job building the side and whether it is his lack of experience actually winning things a lack of investment or a combination of both the bottom line is he hasn't won anything with what (was?) a very good side for a few years. I remember a Spurs mate of mine saying they should get rid of him a couple of seasons ago and get someone like Mourinho in so that this side wouldn't go to waste and maybe actually win a cup or something. I laughed at him then but in hindsight he may have had a bit of a point. I used to take the piss as don't you all remember when Spurs had one of the best keepers in the league in Lloris, the best fullbacks in Trippier and Rose, Alderweireld and Vertongen must be the best centre back partnership in the PL, Dier and Wanyama are very good holding mids, fantastic playmakers in Eriksen and (then, not now) Alli and the best striker in the world Kane? They won nothing, the best they did was making Leicester work harder for the title, then they came third anyway. Oh and they were right in the CL final until the ref blew the whistle for the game to start.
these teenage strikers! it's all about goals goals goals! when will they learn to shoot just outside those posts, run around a lot and fall down .. eh Shane?
"But just when Cluj thought they had weathered the storm, Elyanoussi picked the right night to score his first goal for Celtic. On loan from Southampton, he started and finished a flowing move, albeit his shot spun past the keeper on the greasy surface after taking a huge deflection off a defender. At the other end, they needed Fraser Forster to stay alert, and he did, tipping Billel Omrani's dangerous shot across his goal away from danger."
Mark Hughes heavily linked with Reading - his old assistant (Bowen?) is DOF at Reading. Pray for Reading if true.
Heard strong rumours about that one... Pardew also in the frame but would've thought Bowen would swing it if Hughes wants it.
Sunderland have sacked their manager. At 74 matches, Jack Ross fell one match short of displacing Gus Poyet as their longest-tenured manager in recent years. As chaotic as we've been at times, we lead 2-0 in number of managers to survive at least two seasons over the past decade.
A Northern Ireland player fell foul of a new rule that says a player has to leave the pitch at the nearest point when substituted. He got a yellow card for leaving the field in the usual manner to cross over with the player coming on...meant a red as he already had a yellow card (so no substitute allowed). https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49960000
Are we all so interested in tonight’s game that I am the first to mention it, just a few hours before kickoff?
I will be switching the football to my iPad at 8.30 to watch the final of Celebrity Masterchef, to see if Neil Ruddock wins.
