His performance in the 4-2 away win at Chelsea was right up there with the best I’ve seen from a Sunderland player. He was quality.

Whether he did or not that can cover a multitude of situations . Having the final say on a poor selection of players isn't a great help.

We’ve not had it since. He could do pretty much everything, like I say I know he asked for crazy money and it was at the start of the money madness, but he was the man.

Goals, assists, hold possession. One of my favourite players we’ve had in my time. Real world good.

It's looking more like Ainsworth by the hour.

I really can't abide him tbh.

    I'd say it's a combination of

    1. Signing players who haven't been getting regular football/who are injured and it taking them time to get up to speed

    2. Them not being very athletic players in the first place

    3. Other teams having more players who have had regular game time over years instead of months compared to ours and us looking more knackered in comparison. We've done a lot of squad rotation too so not much consistency

    4. Probably the most important factor I'd guess that Ross was too nice to work them into the ground. I'm thinking training sessions were more focused on technical stuff because we have got some players with canny ability for the league. I always thought they did their best for him but they could have offered more if they'd been fitter.

Looks like it going to be Ainsworth...FFS talk about underwhelming. Totally unambitious, cheap, and small minded imo :-(

Add the ridiculousness of a compen payment when a far better suited Stendel is sitting free.

I think we'll interview lots of candidates, I doubt we'll give it to the first person we interview. If the takeover thread has taught us anything it's that more often than not internet rumours amount to nowt.

Ainsworth is totally uninspiring choice if I’m honest If that’s the way it goes. It’s another Jack Ross appointment in my eyes.

To me you either go Paul Cook or you take the nostalgic gamble on a SKP or Roy Keane to put bums on seats and try and go up riding the crest of a wave.

Ainsworth is in between them both and if he doesn’t hit the ground running I don’t see the fan base sticking with him for long. That’s not to say he’s not a good manager I just think he’s not what we need at this minute in time.

I don't know a damn thing about Ainsworth but it's worth noting that Wycombe are in second so he's doing alright.

It’s just a bad fit, and it’s clearly a bad fit.

He’s a charismatic fella Ainsworth, been on Soccer AM a few times and he’s a good fella, but so was Ross.

I don’t believe we will appoint him but if we do, I’ll have a mini meltdown and I’ll have lost a lot of my faith in Donald instantly.

He shouldn’t even have been in the frame, frankly. 7 years going up then down with Wycombe is not what you need at a high pressured Phoenix club. Have they based it in the 7 games this season? That’s the only logic and that still screams of clueless desperation.

He used to be in a band called Dog Chewed the Handle (after the Terrorvision song) and they were supposed to support Bad Manners on tour but had to pull out because of his football commitments.
That's all you need to know, really.

Lets be honest, theres a few people I cant stand but I still respect them. Im not a huge fan of Ainsworth but reading a few articles about him, players think very highly of him and he gets the best (and maybes worst) out of players. This point i time Id have Fred West managing the club if he kicked the club/team into winners

    So, the latest is.

    - We’ve spoken to Stendel already.
    - We’ve been given consent to speak to Ainsworth, nothing more.
    - We are awaiting consent to speak to Cook.

Personally, I would be OK with Ainsworth. He dragged Wycombe up to where they are now by getting the absolute maximum out of what he had. Give him what ought to be the best squad in L1 and he should be able to do what Jack Ross seemingly couldn't, albeit that I didn't think he had enough time, namely convert draws into wins and stop us cacking our collective panties every time we take the lead in games...
