I have noticed over the past year the amount of people who have been saying "Players play on a field for 90 minutes on a saturday and get paid over £100,000 a soldier risks his life and get's paid almost nothing"

Now, this is ALWAYS said by people, who know NOTHING about football. They fail to comprehend that Footballers are NOT paid by the country they're paid by private entities. I think the entire idea of soldiers being paid the amount of pay players get is possibly the stupidest thing I've heard.

I'd like to hear the opinions of people who know something about football. Thanks <ok>

Correct. It's ridiculous, footballers are paid by rich businessmen because they are in high demand and have the money for it.

This thing will always debated. I see the Army as a job, one that you apply for, you know the risks and pay when you sign up. Footballers may get paid more, but they work their way to that level, they don't instantly get it, it's lots of dedication and desire to get there. The Army has a wage structure paid by government as you said, so if they choose to pay the same as footballers that's their choice, however, again as you said footballers are paid privately and discuss wages when joining a club so it's down to how much the owner is willing to pay.

We pay to attend football games. We buy pints and pies at football grounds. We buy replica shirts and other things from the club. We buy sky sports subscriptions. Lots of us spend well over £1k each year on this and that money is going to the club and towards players wages. Now how many of us spend over £1k a year on soldiers? Yes we give charities for soldiers but for most of us we donate no where near £1k. Also football clubs are owned by rich business men who can afford those wages. Soldiers wages are paid by the government which is forever short of money. I agree that it's a ridiculous comparison.

  6. Movie starts, musicians ect all make millions.

Few are rich, many are poor, some are in between.

That's how it will be for the rest of time.

Do you see thousands of people turning up every week to support the army? There is more money in football.

These statements piss me off no end. It's stupid. I agree footballers get paid STUPID money but the important thing to remember is that we're not paying for it. It's independent businesses, and it's their money, so they can do what they want with it for all I care. I'd be pissed off if the government stated forking about 100k a week for soldiers though. The country would go into serious decline, it's mental. I tend to think it'd also glorify the army too much. Something I believe shouldn't be glorified to any extent, as a firm opposer of war and the army and the like.

The amount of hate I get after I mention this point to people. It's ridiculous. They all sign up because it's their choice, they receive money, know fully what to expect, it's just a job and we somehow have to give them respect for it?

I don't hear people saying that someone who sits on his ass in an office block, creating databases, and pie charts and get's paid around £100,000+ yearly are on redicoulus wages. It's just because footballers are in the lime light, they get targeted.

It's a stupid stand point. If you feel that Soliders should get higher wages, don't complain when we raise tax to support a war.

Paying them millions to go and kill people would turn them into hitmen more than soldiers...

I always feel awkward mentioning it to be honest, but there's no two ways about it. I just don't like the army. Sure, they're braver men than me but the term 'hero' is perhaps too strong, especially when you consider we're getting involved with countries and wars that we had no right to get involved with in the first place.

But never mind eh. When conscription comes back in, I'm breaking my own legs, just put it that way.

  12. I think Soldiers deserve more, but not a fortune.

They should get payed a good amount, but the difference should really be in their pension, not their wages.

If they get injured and can't carry on, they should get provided for, and able to live a life of comfort with their loved ones.

Trust me, it's safer not to mention that view. Too many people argue with you and give you abuse for having an opinion that differs. I agree they shouldn't be named heroes, at the end of the day they apply to be in the army, not everyone gets in, it is just a job. When conscription comes in I'm fleeing the country.

  14. I believe the UK should have stayed out of the USA's affairs, but we're always going to suck their cock because for some reason, we decided to ally ourselves with one of the most hated nations in the world.

I don't agree with all this "omfg al queda bombed us, we should kick their asses", but I've heard accounts from soldiers of what the Taliban Militia does to their own people, and someone has to stop that.

We could also say that the US and UK soliders have been doing horrible things to innocent people.

  16. Yes, some of them do, but at the end of the day the army is never going to be what we want it to be. We're sending in blokes that have been physically and mentally prepared for killing people.

At the end of the day, the Army and Government can't complain when they let basically anyone, regardless of their record, join the army and get trained to kill people.

We expect every soldier to be an old fashioned gentlemen that kills out of love for their country, and accepts an honorable surrender, and treats their prisoners well?

We can't expect all our Soldiers to be killers and perfect men.

    Just saying.

I don't like what are army does sometimes, but we can't expect the army to be full of gentlemen.

The army has never been full of gentlemen. Throughout history it's been full of nutcases, or criminals with the odd lad who doesn't know what he's getting himself into. People where told "You can go to jail, or join the army son" And they joined.

    That's a 6-year contract worth $100m over the 6 years.

There's no way to compare soldiers salaries v footballer.... Football is part of the entertainment industry, whether we as fans like it or not. People pay money into the industry, rich owners plough money into the industry and the employees of the industry get paid by the industry. Almost the complete opposite of a soldier being paid effectively by the govt.

  20. I know that, what i meant is this "pip, pip, bally hally ho lads, over the wall we go". "Of course i accept your surrender good sir, would you care for a glass of port?"

    All that ****e.

The army is going to be full of rough blokes, so i don't think the government should expect our soldiers to treat P.O.W's with respect or well in anyway.
