Henriksen’s technically good on the ball, he can pick a pass (and actually complete it) and he’s a decent finisher, he’s ideal for the role of attacking midfielder, a position where we’re currently desperately lacking.

He’s regularly been slated by many, even when he was one our best performers, he’s probably used to it by now.

 

He was an out and out attacking midfielder at Rosenberg, they tried him as a defensive midfielder for a few games, but it was a disaster and they immediately switched him back.

He was an attacking midfielder in Holland.

He should be an attacking midfielder in Hull.

 

It’s just my opinion based on what I’ve seen, I think he’s in a different league to Honeyman or Lopes.

 

Markus Henriksen admits he is saddened by his steep fall from grace with Hull City as he continues to be frozen out of Grant McCann’s plans.

Henriksen is currently on international duty with Norway ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifier at home to Spain this weekend he is yet to feature for the Tigers at any stage of this Championship season.

Uncertainty over his future initially led McCann to not consider the midfielder during the opening month and nothing has changed since the closure of European transfer window confirmed Henriksen would stay with City until at least January.

The 27-year-old has since turned down the chance to sign a contract extension with the Tigers, with an exit now seemingly inevitable either in January or as a free agent next summer.

“It’s obviously sad, but that’s the way the club wants to go about it,” Henriksen told reporters in Norway.

“Why it has to be like this? You have to ask them. Instead of complaining and making a drama about it, I do my job.

“I come to training with a smile, and I do everything I can to stay as fit as possible.

“My only message to them has been that I’m ready if they want to use me. They used their option to extend, so I have one year left.”

Henriksen’s only competitive action since the final day of last season came last month when he was part of a Norway side that drew 1-1 with Sweden.

He is expected to keep his place when lining up against Spain in a crucial fixture in Oslo on Saturday and that will be a far cry from his low-key appearances for City in recent times.

As well as turning out in an under-23s fixture against QPR at the KCOM Stadium, he also played in a behind-closed-doors friendly against York City, a game City won 9-2 at their training ground.

McCann has continued to keep faith with the midfielders he believes have a long-term future with City and without an injury crisis it grows increasingly difficult to see Henriksen forcing his way back in at the KCOM Stadium.

“I’ve made it very clear what I think,” added Henriksen. “I am ready, and I am fit.

“Everyone that knows anything about football understands that you don’t go from being captain and playing well, to suddenly not being good enough for a squad of 20 players.”

Asked about turning out for City’s under-23s, he added: “I’ve wanted to play there to stay match fit, because I train with the first team as usual and spend all my time there, except I don’t get to play.

“It is important to play matches, because I want to be in best possible shape when it comes to the national team as well.”
