why are people so angry at people for trying to stop greedy millionaires kill the human race ?

I don't believe its happening? fine but if it is were its a big wrong call

the worst consequence of the rebellion being wrong is a few people being late for work

the worst consequence otherwise is only the end of the human race

Natural selection, mate. What does it matter if we all perish, so what? Life itself will go on.

Anyway, I agree with the pouch, but I'd control the source. Very first thing I'd do is stop people from reproducing without the right to do so, as in the basic right to bear child, whether you're rich, poor, black, white, beige, asian, ginger or gay, is removed. You have to apply instead.

Think of how many people we could employ to be our population control board? Think of the incredible future impact on crime, famine, poverty, the economy and the environment? We'd be back on track in one generation.

Instant DQ (i.e. sterilisation) for drug addicts, paedophiles, rapists and murderers. Broken home? Here's your medication, ma'am. Pregnant with no money? Just take two of these, you'll be right as rain. Up the duff and on the streets? 1 hour in outpatients will sort the problem.

No possibly about it. I also don't believe in same sex bear hibernation, and think black bears should be in the circus.

I think it's all weird, anyway. I don't believe for one second the human beings are native to planet earth, I think we'll leave this one near the end to populate and then destroy another one, we're a virus (copyright Matrix).

We just don't belong, on any level. You see animals that have "evolved" over millions of years to either catch prey, or avoid being caught. Except us. We've got our live food wandering around in fields, before cajoling them off to be slaughtered and butchered. Cows haven't evolved to mistrust humans; they've stayed the same. You look at the beautiful countryside....from a metal can on 4 wheels, driving on dirty tarmac, created using things that destroy the environment, and which is covered in the squashed corpses of animals.

The whole issue with fossil fuel use and climate change is that it is a global, not local issue, and to expect countries with existing reserves to stop using them to fuel their domestic growth is not realistic unless cheaper alternatives are available. Its not the oil companies causing the problem - its consumer demand. If that wasn't there it wouldn't be commercially possible to extract fossil fuels.

Growing economies are going to continue exploiting their resources and unless developed countries are willing to pay them not to they will do so until they are depleted or there is a cheaper alternative. Every country is forecasting an increase in the relative contribution of renewables to their energy mix over the next 5years but in most cases its happening slower than forecast.

The technology is there to clean up emissions and reinject CO2 back into the ground and we should be looking at supplying that technology free to developing countries.

Climate change and rising ocean levels may cause issues which may lead to population decrease which will reduce energy demand so the cycle will right itself. At the same time technologies will improve to reduce emissions from combustion.

Bottom line - the protests will achieve nothing. However if they want to protest go ahead.

If we are going to have a cull we should start with people who produce methane in their farts. Only about half of people can do this. They must be the first to go as methane is far more problematic than CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

Spoken like a true geologist :)

No problem with protests... it's just these dick heads that piss me off.
Almost 600 arrests in 2 days and 12 more days to come of it.
They tie up police time, take drugs, stop hard workers from doing their jobs, vandalise buildings. Oh and they dance like they have a firework up their arse.
    Scruffy trampy smelly ****s.

Who are these greedy millionaires then? Isn't the main source of the problem us? Its our demand for industrial growth, travel etc that is fuelling the demand for energy.

Anyway as Albert points out us geologists know how to survive catastrophes, including climate change. Obviously we won't be making this information publicly available so that there will be less demand on resources after the next big one (I can PM you if you are interested).

I agree with the sentiments but those who make the decisions couldn't give two ****s whether middle classes, masquerading as activists, are stopping a few roads in London for a day.

The people who really feel it are your average worker and the already stretched police force, so how has this been remotely constructive? The conversation is being discussed already.

My issue is getting the feeling a lot of these protesters will finish up, get in their car and **** off back to whence they came. They'll then get home, put the telly on, the gas on, piss about on their phones and tablets. They'll feel very proud of themselves without any acknowledgement of the irony. You know how much it'll have cost those protesters who have a job? They'll have taken Annual Leave.

    The timing is just baffling.

Climate Change is THE topic right now. We are seeing it everywhere. So a bunch of southern middle class numpties put down their Lib Dem placards and their momentum shirts to go on a drug binge for a few days.

I understand standing up for your belief, but climate change is a bit bigger than the UK fellas. As it stands, like almost all Northern/Western European countries we are doing quite a bit to combat climate change.

If these climate activists had some balls, they'd be in Nigeria, demanding people return to living in abject poverty and slowing their economies, or in India demanding they return to collecting bottles in streams and riding elephants to work. Or they can travel to Beijing and demand China does more.

Maybe convince America climate change actually exists?

Nah, I think I'll sit in London and rave. Like most things left wing Uni students participate in, it's just annoying, a waste of public resources and frustrating to watch.

So basically I can count you in on the mass culling protest? 3pm Northumberland St. We can discuss my off the cuff remark on culling asians which I know won't sit well with you (unless she's getting on your nerves?). Unlike Boris I am willing to negotiate and swap asians out for another race or group. I mean scandinavians seem quite full of themselves. The French have already given us all their food secrets to improve our cuisine, what else are they bringing to the party?

I think the protesters want the world's countries to do more to slow climate change.
But if the big polluters won't spend money on the task, then the world is knackered.

Was sad to see those fires in the world's biggest absorber of co2. Brazil's president even refused money from the UN to fight it.

Planet Earth is in trouble. And it can't be stopped as enough of us can't agree to do some big stuff. We're doomed I tell you.

You sound like you're in for the mass culling protest too Consett, less people, less opinions, more chance of us agreeing.

I am struggling to see a downside to killing off a good portion of the human race. We are the issue so lets lesson the load on the planet.
