As I said elsewhere, Ashley only sanctions sales if it's unavoidable. Everyone has a price. £50m will get you either brother, unfortunately, that's life and essential for progression as a team. Under Ashley the problem is we don't re-invest wisely or, worse, we are selling because we have to pay for relegation. If we can survive this season, with our sound finances, we will be able to hold on to the Longstaffs and still invest in bettering the team.

Weirdly, the Ashley model is a good one. It's a better benchmark than the likes of Chelsea. If we just had a bit more capital investment in the training, the youth setup and the scouting network we could easily be in a really good place. Fans get really hung up on stuff that doesn't actually matter, or that they don't actually understand. That's the power of the internet - giving too much information to those who don't know how to process it.

you misunderstand my point! if I'm going to be critical of bad performances and decisions then it's only right that I credit the positives .. I'm STILL very much ashley out, but I'm admitting there's a huge positive in having local lads playing for us and I can see something special happening for the first time in about 20 years in that respect.
