    Ah sod it!

Since I posted that I've had messages from half a dozen other people who know the same thing.

One lad obviously knows a lot more than me and told me things that surprised me involving the rumours about extending the stadium, etc.

He doesn't want the hassle of posting anything and I don't blame him one bit, it's draining tbh.

But he, and other people, have confirmed what I've been told about the badge. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't take this an any indication that the takeover is done/not done/undone or anything else but ....

    .... yes, its the badge.

This is how it was put to me. The current badge looks like it was designed in Victoria times, has more symbols than the da Vinci code and a Latin motto that's basically meaningless.

They want something that makes an impact and says something.

That's it, no big deal in itself but, to us, it's a massive massive deal and they need to get it bang on. The stadium name is another area of discussion and the same thinking applies. It puts us back in Victoria times and, although people in the area appreciate the link with mining, it says nothing to the rest of the world or bring in any money.

I suppose these things are like a comfort blanket to us, taking us back to massive shipyards, full employment and the glory days when we won league titles and celebrated at Wembley.

This is going to be like a tsunami for the club and everything connected to it.

Disclaimer: All of the above is my opinion based on things repeated to me.

Interesting more on the scope to make the club a worldwide brand which is exactly what is needed and I think the old school fan clinging onto the sentimental roots of the club need to understand that the only way to move the club into the elite is having a worldwide fanbase as opposed to just people with an SR postcode.

Badge also desperate for a change so that's another tick in the box for me.

I'm 64 mate, I love all the symbolism of the pits, the yards and the old days.

But it's like clinging on to the memory of your ex-wife at times ...
... gets you nowhere and makes you take your eye off the future.

There comes a time when you really need to move on for the sake of the kids ;)

Personally I really care what the badge looks like (within reason) or for that matter what they call the Stadium...After watching/following this club all my 61 years all I yearn is a few years where I can watch a successful, entertaining and exciting team play. All this other stuff which I understand is commercially important, is nothing more peripheral bollocks for fans.

The badge change has been discussed, in depth on RTG and I'm a firm believer that a more simple badge, such as Spurs or Liverpool's would be the best way forward. Nice and clean and simple or even the old SAFC lettering from 73 cup final shirts.

Obviously my opinion and I would be open to other designs.

im thinking the new brand will have more of a logo than what we know as a badge or crest, something simple but easily recognizable

My missus genuinely thought I was having an affair because of this bloody takeover. It was the Friday when Donald was in Consett. I've been on my phone loads anyway looking for updates, but that evening she was trying to talk to me and I was constantly on my phone following the thread.

Eventually she came across, demanded my phone and said she wanted to check my texts because she thinks I'm texting a lass. She took my phone, saw no texts out of the ordinary so I came clean; the takeover I've been on about might be in doubt, there's rumours and counter rumours, Donald is giving a talk in as we speak but we can't watch it and I'm needing to follow for updates. I showed her the thread on the SMB and how often I'd been posting.

She said I'm a sad bastard (along with "all those internet people") and that she'd rather I'd been having an affair <doh>

Good move. The current badge with so much detail must be nightmare to print/embroider on merchandise which costs everyone more. I think someone posted on RTG all the American team badges - all very simple with one main image that makes it and the club instantly recognisable. So I'm guessing a big black cat's head (panther) on a red and white shield, probably similar to Hull City's.

For the stadium, I reckon either a long-term sponsorship deal with a memorable brand or named after where it is (roughly). Nissan, Wearside, St Peter's, Roker. All Stadium or Arena.

It’s socially accepted to go meet random lads and lasses for sex on the internet, but talking about football, the single most important thing to the adult male population, is weird.

I’m a mackem that’s lived in Newcastle my entire adult life, bar a couple years abroad, this forum is a ****ing lifeline at times.

I’m not a ****ing computer nerd with no real pals, I’m a lad who lives and breathes my ****ty football team, ain’t we all?

Women are weird. She will think nowt of watching hours on end of plastic women famous for having a big arse but we are odd talking football? Naaah pet.

Since I was told about this I've looked at the most dynamic club's badges.

It's actually true, in most cases, what they're saying.

I don't mean most famous, etc, just the most dynamic.

I've had so much info thrown at me it's made my head spin. Once I'd posted what I knew I was flooded with people, working at the club, etc, confiding in me. But there's one thing that stuck in my mind and made me totally rethink my feelings.

I was told one of those involved said,

"Let's celebrate the past by winning things in the future."

Well, I won't be taking my 'Monty's save' picture down but I'm up for turning my head to look to the future.
