The only reason tax is high is because we have to buy Dollars against the Pound in order to buy any Oil we import. The price of our petrol isn't that much different from the rest of Europe just an easy tabloid headline for lazy yellow journalists.
I was only asking, but I'm glad you've put me straight. I feel a weight has been lifted off my shoulders knowing we pay a similar price as the rest of the EU.
Soros (IIRC) raked it in big time when he brought the pound to it's knees. It is unbelievably easy to make money in this world with the right media connections. Release a statement saying that things aren't going so well. Shares go down, the owner invests and buys up a **** load of the shares and then miraculously releases better than expected profits and said shares go through the roof.
Last time I was in America (2006) it was 19p a litre. First time I drove over there 2002 it was 11p. ****ing nuts how good those ****s have it. They never stop whining about the price either!!! I'll be glad when the star-spangled stranglehold on oil is lifted and some parity can be resumed.
