They've had plenty of great days at Fratton Park over the years though FML. It's all very well bigging up the Carrow Road crowd two Saturdays ago, but you have to remember that the most frequent comment from people was that they'd never experienced anything like it and how it needed to become the norm. When (if ever) it is the norm, that's the time to crow about it surely?
Great post robbie!!! I've been to MANY games in the last 10 or more seasons when I've been dismayed by how quiet it has been around the stadium, apart from the Barclay and the Snake Pit. I've often tried (mostly in vain)to get a chorus of 'Yellows, Yellows' going in the River End.
Oh well, by losing in the EFL Cup to Crawley, we've avoided a 7-1 hammering by Colchester United. Everton v Watford Aston Villa v Wolverhampton Wanderers Manchester City v Southampton Burton v Leicester Crawley v Colchester Chelsea v Manchester United Oxford v Sunderland Liverpool v Arsenal https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49834154
Well, that draw guarantees two lower league teams in the quarter finals, but I bet every one of them was hoping for a more glamorous tie in this round.
Harsh. Especially as they're one of the richest clubs on the planet. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ing-atletico-madrid-football?CMP=share_btn_tw
What is the point of even bothering. Another pathetic decision, to not "annoy one of the big Clubs". I was listening to the Elis James Feast of Football podcast today where he talks to Gabbidon and Iwan Roberts. Who ever Wales have next have been "punished" for racism. They now have to play behind closed doors. So all of the Welsh fans who have bought tickets, booked flights, booked accommodation. Are all screwed. They are now saying, they might allow under 14 school kids to watch the game. That is more of a punishment to the Wales team and more so, the Welsh fans!! It made me so angry. It's just how everything is at the moment. They have broken the law, lets punish the team they are up again next, and basically let the racists off completely! I don't understand how these organisations keep getting away with this.
And we thought Hernandez was foolish for falling down some stairs!!! Derby County captain Richard Keogh has been ruled out until the end of the season due to a knee injury sustained on the night of a crash that led to the arrest of two of his team-mates. Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett have been charged with drink-driving following the accident in the city's Allestree area on Tuesday night. The crash involved a Range Rover Sport and a Mercedes GLC, police said. Derby County said the crash followed a team-building dinner. IMO, with the money they earn, they could easily have afforded taxis
Can someone please put the link to the Micah Richards story on the BBC website. If anyone thinks it's okay to hurl abuse at players, read this story and hang your heads in shame!
Interesting read Dave. It does make you think how little we have achieved since the Kick it Out campaign started.
Where does kick it out come into this story? Unless I missed something, none of the abuse highlighted was of a discrimanatory nature. (I'm not disagreeing by the way, open displays of racism seem to be on the increase again) This just seems to me to be quite another problem. We had our very own sick note in Jarvis. Many of us had little sympathy for him, OK we unlike the Pinkun brigade would not openly abuse him. But it is very frustrating when a player like them comes to your club barely plays whilst earning a kings ransom. I'm sure they want to play and they do get down, but as I said before with Jarvis. So did I. I had to stop when ankle and hamstring problems became too persistant to justify continuing. Do I miss it? Of course, playing footy was a great er joy than supporting ever was (Though City on form and beating champions comes close) So do I feel sorry for them on their big contracts earning their way through sickbay. No not really. They still have it a truck load better than most. I'll wager Richards was earning more a week than the majority of Villas fans do in year, whilst sat on his arse. But the problem is that once again you have the keyboard warrior abusing with seeming impunity. Should any of us get so steamed up about these things? It's only football! Aside from the fact it is obviously frustrating for fans seeing a player milk their club it is part of a much bigger and more worrying trend for me, everyone seems so bloomin angry these days. Look at the vitriol poured forth at: Brexiteers, to remoaners, Greta, a 16 year old girl! Injured players, directors if someone doesn't like their film/show ending, restaurants if they don't get something just so and seemingly all politicians. The majority of politicians on face value do not seem worthy of much respect, but has there ever been a time where such openly disrespectful comment has been so wide spread. What hope does sociaety have when our leaders are roundly disrespected? Or are our politicians so: morally bankrupt, incompetent and self interested that they are both markedly worse than any previous generation and worthy of the abuse? Boris, Corbyn and Abbott are they the worst there has ever been? Or is this media age just highlighting or embellishing it? Bah!
Great post GM I think you have hit the nail on the head with your talk of keyboard warriors. It's often said that there weren't the dirty old men fiddling with kids back in the day, but isn't the real truth that there wasn't the instant media to highlight it back then?
I broadly speaking disagree. I think there has been an uptick in incidence (This might also be a legacy of better reporting) we are hearing about. But when has Italy ever not had the problem, when have England ever travelled to Eastern Europe and not had some abuse. But I genuinely believe it is getting better at youth level and even ammoungst some of us older generation. Where it isn't getting better is the thickos and the deprived and that is a socio economic issue. Most Kids these day are growing up in a multicultural environment and naturally will be less predjudised as a result. Many of these youngster will challenge racism because they have been brought up in a time where education against racist attitudes is stronger. It won't of course get through to all of them, some with determinedly ignorant parents but hopefully in 2 or 3 generations time (OK I don't believe that, the divisions in the country on Brexit highlight how unharmonious we are as a species) we can really get close to eliminating such attitudes so even the few remaining racists will not dare air their bile. But like I say, I think things are getting better, I just think social media has given a vehicle for people to air their rubbish in a way that highlights the few, there are still too many few, but each generation I think gets better. Or am I just hoping? Has Islam and its media protrayal as an example kick started a new and growing hatred and further societal issues? Bah!
