I do think that Ross is capable of learning and adapting, he's always looking for his best team and he doesn't stick with favourites. We'll have to see, some that played tonight might be too tired for Saturday.
I'm sure Ross will make it as a top manager, but whether he will be given the time and patience here is another kettle of fish.
What a ****ing strike by Max by the way. And a ****ing 0? I need to stay off the mushies midweek... Wonder who we get in Europa.
Oxford hammerd West Ham, Burton beat Bournemouth and Rochdale took Man United to Pens. Who said League 1 is shyte .
Pleased I was wrong regarding last nights game, it was a backs to the wall performance at times but the Lads stuck in and competed, cracking goal from Max Power, well done.
Shut up you. I'm in America for the Fleetwood game. I want it cancelled. Is that a tad selfish of me.
Some "fans" are utterly stupid - social media saying "well they were ****"and when an opposition plays well against us "well we were ****" Some simply can't understand the hypocrisy of the posts - we played well last night and won. Regardless of them being poor we played well. I understand when we don't play well but credit surely should be given when due - there was a fan who called BBC Newcastle last night slagging off Ross. He was the same person who, at the start of last season said he expected us to get relegated from League one! And has nothing positive to say about us. Despite us massively exceeding his expectations last season. Some of our fans do my head in
8 changes, 2 debutants, early injury to a player influencing the game ... ... credit where it's due. Not forgetting a cracking goal to remind the entire squad that we are allowed to shoot from outside the box.
Criticism of Ross to be expected after the Bolton result. However, I think the level he's come under is exaggerated by the fact people are sick of this league, the high hopes people have due to the potential new owners (yes I say potential, I'm not getting carried away until I see some official news now) and the dissapointment of last season. However, I think Ross still has the squads respect and it won't take much to improve the results (as I think this result shows) . A couple of players in Jan and we should be good.
The Bolton result looked bad on paper but the avoidable two draws at home, made me worry more about his and our future. Last nights result will mean nothing if we don't win on Saturday, but it does give us hope, a word that should, I know, be treat with caution. OaU
You forgot Sunderland Reserves also best Sheffield United Reserves on merit unlike Manures lucky penalty shot out win against mighty Rochdale
Been meaning to ask if anyone that was at the match.... did our two new signings tire towards the last 20 minutes or so or did they look lively throughout the whole game. was expecting any subs to involve them two but didn't happen, reports also suggest they both did OK. anybody got a comment or two?
Another thing about this is that, if you put the 44 players from those clubs alongside ourselves, Rochdale, Burton and Oxford, how many of the league 2 44 would start for any of the others in a cup game ahead of the ones who played? Joel Lynch or Phil Jagielka? It's all relative Would Lingaard, Pereira, Chong and Greenwood start for every League 1 club ahead of whoever they have? Probably - at least 3 of them would
I was at the match and thought that Lynch looked the part, didn’t notice De Bock being out of place at left back either so overall I’d say they both had good debuts, did they tire, not noticeably but having not played competitively for a while I’m sure they were feeling the pace by the end.
It's a shame Embleton got hurt, he was playing very well. Before Power's goal, which was completely against the run of play, we gave United some good scoring chances but they failed to convert. After the goal, it seemed like the ball stayed between the 18's for the most part, with neither side venturing into the opponents penalty box very often.
