Your manager on yesterday's match : "I think I have never had such an atmosphere in a stadium so far" Lol, not the best endorsement for St Mary's.
That atmosphere was only because we were in town. Don't be such a dumb fool thinking he's praising P0mp4y it's all about the atmosphere of the Derby.
I honestly didn't think it was that loud though I missed the beginning. You could have heard a pin drop between goals 3 and 4 when you started playing up to the cameras*. * #standard
I guess we've all seen the Portsmouth fan punches police horse video? https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-hampshire-49823006
He said that while all the saints fans who had been kept in were singing in the background. He even mentioned it straight after that quote if you listened to the interview live.
Ah, is this going to be added to the "evidence" that Portsmouth fans are the greatest fans on earth™ Because Ronaldo/Ronaldinho/Pele/Maradona/"H" from Steps apparently said so in an interview no one can ever find? Because quite frankly, that's bollocks. Your **** hole of a ground holds noise well. So do a lot of others. If you actually had the "greatest fans on earth™" you might have warranted a bigger stadium, which more than likely would reduce noise output. As it stands, you've got some mong with a bell and about 12 other "greatest fans on earth™" most games. Get over yourselves. Last night the atmosphere was good because they had come to see the greatest team in Hampshire. Let me know what the atmosphere is like next home game.
Not sure I mentioned the phrase greatest fans in the world once, care to point out where I did? Also so much anger considering you won. Chill, you'll live longer.
Interesting reading some of these comments and I want to respond to some of them in a balanced fashion. I think that Fratton Park is probably comparable to The Dell as a football gound. It is an old, antiquated stadium that is full of atmosphere but agree with Lincoln Saint that grounds like this do have a better atmosphere than the more modern equivalent. To be honest, St Marys has never rocked like The Dell did and I have never experienced anything like the game in the mid-90s where were came from behind to beat Newcastle 3-2 to help avoid relegation. My ears were ringing after stepping out of the Archers Road bike stand to the extent that it affected your balance. It is good to see some balanced opinion on this thread and that some Saints fans seeing fit to give Portsmouth some credit. Having seen the clips, we certainly rode our luck before the first goal and I think the match would have been more difficult had we conceded. Would we have won in the end if we went behind? I think the Premier quality would have shone through and we would have still come out of top in the end. I am sure that some Portsmouth fans are decent people and there are the likes of Meowth and Lampras on here who I genuinely like. However, it should not be allowed to mask the fact that there is a deeply unpleasant and infantile element of Pompey supporters whose mindset has been fossilised in the 1970s and who really have no part in 21st century football. The clips posted on line show some of these fans to be absolutely vile and in no circumstances can they be defended. I would concede that the passion for the local football team in Portsmouth is in excess of what it seen amongst Saints fans and, as I have said before, the loyalty for the club is probably beyond what most Southampton supporters can understand. They are passionate to an extent that mirrors other working class cities like Newcastle but similarly often weighed down by wholly unrealistic expectations and a perception of their importance which is exaggerated. I admit that they are team that should be in the top half of the Championship at the very least and the unfulfilled expectations this season are understandable amongst their supporters even if hoping for a home win in this cup tie was more dependent on Saints' not being focussed as to an superiority of the team in blue. There has been a trait in the media today to applaud "plucky" Portsmouth and Radio Solent has been especially even-handed this morning. Some of the coverage has been seen through rose-tinted glasses. Whilst they did raise their game in the first twenty minutes, is it not equally plausible to argue that Saints did not really get in to their higher gears? The gulf has now almost become insurmountable for Portsmouth and maybe it is time for some Pompey fans to recognise they were outclassed. Fair play to Sharpe's honest and genuine appraisal. The win is no less "special" for Saints supporters and any suggestion on this board or in the media that the victory is somehow less meaningful for us is totally misplaced. Portsmouth fans should feel privileged to have witness the 1sr, 2nd and 3rd goals which were exquisite and , in the case of the Redmond effort, a piece of footballing brilliance of the like that Portsmouth fans would have not have witnessed since their days in the Premiership.
I'm as chilled as can be old Stick. Not even the self proclaimed "greatest fans in the world™ can bring me down. I'm floating about with not a care in the world. You see, my beloved football team won 4-0, against their rather pathetic rivals. That's right, FOUR goals to Nil. Four! PS the game finished 4-0 xx
