Villa vs Toon - My thoughts on the game

Well, we could have won and probably deserved to but we made some silly mistakes and Villa could have taken advantage.

I'm actually over the moon with a point tbh, and even more so at the performance. Cabaye was ****ing unbelievable today, and is already getting the hang of the league. Tiote was great and back to his usual self.

Obertan, despite lacking a final ball, seems a little bit more confident because he was beating more players than usual.

Ratings -

Krul - 7 - Didn't have to do much, but made some great challenges/punches when we needed.

Simmo - 6 - Not great but at least he hasn't gone back to his form in the first 3 games.

Saylor - 7 - Overall performance was good but made some sloppy errors. Still not to worry.

Colo - 7 - Not his best performance, but still pretty good.

Raylor - 6.5 - Some ****e control and **** play at times, but fair play to him, he put in some cracking balls into the box, and did some decent attacking.

Obertan - 6.5 - Lacked a final ball, but some decent link up play and he's getting more confidence after each match. Not his best performance but a decent one.

Cabaye - 9 - Man of the match easily. His shooting is ****ing orgasmic. Can't believe he hasn't got a goal yet he must have shot on target about 15 times of the course of 5 games and hit the target each time.

Tiote - 8 - Not the perfect performance, but his form seems to be returning. Much better today, much better control and dribbling, a ****ing fantastic ball to assist Best. Good performance.

Jonas - 6.5 - Not his best. Some decent attacking play but most of his crosses were ****e. But still, some decent passing, and threatened at times.

Best - 7 - Good goal, and good link up play with Ba. Ba and Best make a good upfront pair. I hope for ****s sake that Pardew realizes that Shola ****s us over big time upfront.

Ba - 7 - Good performance, good link up play with Best.

Shola - 0

Marv - 7 - He's looked fantastic every time he plays. Great passing, fantastic pace, decent dribbling. He deserves more time.

Sammy - 11 - The goal that never was should have been allowed But seriously, i'd give him a 6.5 for some decent impact play.

MOTM - Cabaye. His vision is just outstanding, and his shooting is awesome. Lets hope for more of this.

Overall - Just shows how great of a team we are when we stop playing ****ing hoofball with ****ing Shola, and start playing good, flowing, passing footy. Ba and Best = goals, Shola upfront = ****.

Praise Tiote for returning, and Ba for a good performance. Just shows what a difference not being in the ramadan makes, they both looked much more sharp and energetic.

Why Saylor 6.5? He was good apart from a couple of sloppy mistakes.

I would say 6.5 because of the sloppy mistakes.

Obertan is still scared to take on his man, unless playing a 1-2 with someone though. Lazy chasing back again which really pisses me off. But overrall an OK performance. Would replace him with Marv.

 

Sammy's 'goal' was class

 

I'm sorry but a couple of mistakes shouldn't put him down that much. Colo was part of the reason we conceded the goal but i wouldn't give his overall performance lower than a 7

 

Tash, I think you start with unrealistically high ratings for some players. For example, Saylor could have an average game and you'd give him 7.5/8. An average game is a 6 in most people's eyes. He was pretty average today. Made a few mistakes but covered himself fairly well

On second though you're right to an extent, but i wouldn't give him less than a 7 though.

 

I think he rates his own articles too highly himself too!

 

I think others rate them too low when they give 1 stars just for the **** of it also

 

Simmo wasn't our worst player either - thought he was better than both Taylors, even Colo wasn't at his best.

 

Oooo scandalous! I think the 'others' are shocking doing that!

 

My personal ratings :

Krul 6 - Decent performance but nothing special.
Simpson 6 - OK, that's about it. Same as Krul.
Saylor 6 - Made a couple of errors but was steady enough.
Colo 6 - Not one of his best games...
Raylor 7 - Impressed with his defensive display today and his attacking display wasn't that bad either.
Obertan 6 - Hot and cold.. mostly cold for me today.
Tiote 7 - Yeah.. Tiote is back! AND he didn't pick up his usual yellow card!
Cabaye 9 - Outstanding overall performance. Excellent passing, vision, creativity, skill and shooting.. already looking like a complete bargain!
Guti 6 - Average.. same as Obertan IMO
Ba 7 - His best game in a Toon shirt! Looked lively and was a threat.
Best 6 - Not his best game but popped up with the goal which was crucial! Him and Ba as a partnership has potential that's for sure

Marvo 7 - Looked good.. lovely passing!
Sammy - N/A didn't have that much time to make a impact..
Shola 0 - Why is he still at the club.. let alone the bench? :S

 

I know. It's rare to see a 5 or lower in the ratings in a paper, but really there should be 4 or 5 (for both teams) like that for every average game. Also there's the question, do you rate it on the player's ability or on an average footballer's ability?

 

You rate on the player's ability, otherwise it would be depressing looking at the north conference league match ratings and seeing all 3/4 player rating.

 

Given was man of the match for me today, we deserved to win, how we were behind at half time was a crime. Definitely our best performance of the season.
Krul 6 Not a lot to do may have been at fault for the goal.
Simpson 6 One or two positional problems, but in the main coped with N'Zogbia.
R.Taylor 5 Felt they could have got in down our left, looked a weakness.
S.Taylor 7 Didn't do alot wrong couldn't risk it with the clearance when it was probably going wide.
Coloccini 7 Queitly went about his business
Obertan 5 Yet to convince me.
Tiote 7 Played better, still better to come.
Cabaye 8 Best player for Newcastle today, brilliant effort towards the end.
Gutierrez 5 Not at his best looks a bit to 1 dimensional for me.
Ba 6 Hit and miss.
Best 7 Did well for the goal, didn't really do anything wrong.

Subs
Shola 5 Quiet, didn't do alot.
Marveaux 5 Same as Shola, would prefer to see him in for Obertan or Gutierrez.
Sammy 6 Looked positive when he came on, looks a better player than Shola already.

That's far too harsh on Saylor. Two sloppy errors all game and he gets 5? ffs

He was solid apart from them two moments. No way was Colo better than him.

 

Sammy gets a 15 for his WRONGLY DISALLOWED goal alone
