Jeeeesus, how is it only just over an hour until kick off Nearly time to find out the team sheets...and who drew the short straw to play LB.
I think the rivalry is fine but unfortunately it gets really bitter in Portsmouth and tends to go beyond a joke. The bitterness is only a relatively recent thing and probably dates back no further than late sixties at the earliest. My grandfather used to watch Saints and Portsmouth as well as Aldershot and thought nothing about it. As far as he was concerned, it was Saturday afternoon and that meant football. As a kid, Portsmouth were largely off my radar in the late 70s and much of the 80's. I was only aware of any rivalry during the aforementioned cup tie and the season before Alan Ball got them promoted when they missed the cut. Prior to that they were just a club who seemed to go through managers regularly in contrast to the stability under Lawrie. I can remember one of my Dad's friends making a joke about them losing and seem to recall South Today featuring Frank Burrow's troubled reign quite often. As a nipper, Portsmouth were not a team you took seriously and especially so when they ended up in the old 4th division. It will be a bear pit down there tonight. Finger's crossed for a Saints win but concur that this game will mean so much more to a Portsmouth side and their fans who have had to accept crumbs of comfort since their demise. Not convinced that the foreign Saints will quite appreciate what this match will actually mean. Time for Shane Long , I think! Just the man for the job that is needed!!
Ralph called me a little while ago and asked if I fancied a bash at it. I told him that I appreciated his out of the box thinking and I'd be there as soon as I could but start without me if I'm late. Nobody should be worried.
Ain't nobody, like Obafemi, makes me happy, makes me feel this way Nearly at Fratton although we've come to a stop... Come on you ****ing Saints.
Obafemi feels like a risk. Think he’d be better coming off the bench. He will need to keep his cool. But overall, considering the injuries I’m happy with that team. Having Long, Redmond and Boufal on the bench is resssuring that we have game changers if needs be.
