In other news Man City 7-0 up against Watford with 25 minutes to go.Please get 3 more and lay that unwanted record to rest!

Town seem to be picking up the tempo again.

Doesn’t seem like we’ve been particularly convincing today, but we are winning and still unbeaten. Seems like we are edging games purely by having better quality players.

Feel like that was more tense than it should have been, but very happy to see us go top.

I hope we settle on a system soon though.

As many of us predicted, a tough old league this, full of physicals, and we manage to grind out another win.

When were we last top of a league?<cheers>

Hats off to Chambo, I am the first to pour scorn on him in previous seasons. League 1 is his league & level! <laugh>

You know what I meant warky, team selection for this game. We were poor and struggled a bit against a piss poor side.
I am pleased to see you have got over all that doom and gloom at the start of the season tho.

    I'll take that.

Poor team selection today but we just about got away with it. A game similar to Tuesday with us doing well in the first half and coming under pressure in the second. It's good enough for this league but we'll lose matches playing like this in the Championship, we need to score two goals to make things a little easier.

Holy - was decent today but I'll say it again, he needs to stop booting the ball out with his first time clearances.
KVY - MOTM again? Can see Kane getting picked up by a club higher up the pyramid, his direct play and confidence on the ball is rare to see at this level.
Woolf - solid as always, brought the ball forward on a few occasions today
Chambers - another good display from the captain
Wilson - just as good as the other two in defence
Edwards - meh, not a big fan at the moment, tried but didn't contribute anything tangible
Skuse - was Skuse again, solid performance
Downes - I thought he played well, positive on the ball and tough in the tackle
Dozzell - who? I didn't really notice him playing
Judge - meh, not one of our best midfield options, best used in these matches against 'weaker' opposition
Jackson - tough match trying to control long balls forward but his pace helps out a lot

Overall it's another win, a match that will only be remembered because we won but nothing more. No complaints from me as it keeps the run going.

    Well done lads <applause>

Another good result. 6 points from 2 away games + with a really strong looking bench. Onwards and upwards

Great support in the away end today, non stop noise which started in the pubs before the match.

Went to the game yesterday and certainly a job well done.

I thought the balance of the team that started wasn't quite right but I do think we've still got to remember we haven't got a squad which is up to full speed yet, lots of players with niggling injuries and not quite match fit and Lambert seems to be managing the squad well but it means our performances at the moment don't quite hit top gear, which in itself it promising because it feels like this team have a lot more to give. It also highlighted to me how until we get Keane and Sears up to full fitness we are very light upfront.

As i said first half the balance didn't feel quite right. In midfield we had 2 plodders (Skuse and Downes) plus Judge and Dozzell who clearly have quality but weren't taking the game by the scruff of the neck and taking it to Gillingham. Nolan changed this slightly when he came on. Then upfront Jackson isn't the striker to play up top by himself, even in the small amount of time Norwood was on you could see the difference. But again whilst it wasn't the most balanced of lineups I'm don't think Lambert has a great deal of choice at the moment.

We did look solid though and could definitely see whilst it wasn't 100% clicking we had the more quality on the ball and in spells played some really nice football.

    Player ratings:
Holy - 7 - didn't have a lot to do but claimed everything in the air which took pressure off defence. Kicking needs work though

Vincent Young - 9 - What a player, how are we going to keep hold of him, best RB performance I've seen in years

Woolfenden - 7 - Cool under pressure, really understands defending. Knows when to clear, when to pass, when to tackle when to hold off. Solid performance.

Chambers - 8 - best I've seen him play for a long time he even looked like he'd gained a bit of pace and passed the ball around well.

    Wilson - 7 - good solid performance

Edwards - 7 - playing in a position slightly unfamiliar to him but stuck to his task well defensively getting some good blocks, tackles and headers in. Could see he's used to being a winger because sometimes it felt like he was waiting to have a fullback overlap him but obviously wasn't there.

Skuse - 7 - typical Skuse performance, made some good blocks, tackles and kept the ball ticking over.

Downes - 6 - not one of his better games but not a bad one either

Dozzell - 6 - showed some nice touches and the odd bit of quality but was anonymous for long parts. Needs to step up or be given a long run of games, it's tough going in and out of the team

Judge - 7 - not quite at it today, another mixed performance, sometimes left Jackson isolated but grew into the game and showed his quality on a few occasions with some superb touches and passes. Still needs to do more to have an influence though.

Jackson - 6 - struggled up front by himself but he's not that type of player. Made some good runs but couldn't get in behind enough.

Nolan - 7 - had more purpose in midfield when he came on

Huws - 6 - still can see not 100% up to full speed but was a calming and also due mainly to his stature physical presence in midfield

Norwood - 6 - could see the ball stuck more upfront when he came on for albeit a small amount of time.

Good post itfcptc, I thought Nolan got some pace into the midfield especially going forwards but although we keep winning we are not scoring enough goals, if we took our chances we wouldnt be holding on for the whistle hoping we don't concede, Gillingham didn't have a serious goal attempt in the entire match but there will be teams with better quality players who will score against us.

Has anybody seen Holy's pre or post match interviews?
I friggin' love this lad, he is clearly loving life at Ipswich and he is just so genuine with his answers. It's not all the same old cliches from the interview playbook but real, emotional responses to the question.

His post match from yesterday on iFollow is golden, check it out!
