A much improved performance we are told in the last one. But, can we beat the mighty Cheltenham who are going great guns at the minute. Not one of the front runners you would pick at the start of a season but going well none the less. If, and it is still a big IF, Argyle turn up and start putting away their chances then the simple answer to the above question is yes we can. I'd like to think this game could be our turning point and we start to win games again. I'm going for a home win in this one. COYG
I just read your post on pasoti plym regarding the stats. Not often I say this but I totally agree with you. It's goals that win games and get points not stats unless it is the goal one of course. I see how the usual suspects on there come out and call those that show any doubt stupid and know nothings. It must be wonderful to be that blind to anything but a garden of roses. I wonder sometimes what these people would do without a team or manager to follow so blindly and devoutly .
Hey sensible stop agreeing with me....you'll give me a bad name. Team Palmer, George Cooper, Josh Grant, Aimson, Sawyer, McFadzean, Sarcevic, Edwards, Mayor, Telford, Joel Grant. Subs Michael Cooper, Wootton, Canavan, Taylor, Conor Grant, Lolos, Randell. Telford in for the injured Byron Moore.
Cheltenham 11 fouls to 1 and only one yellow card.....Mayor being kicked out of it....Referee not doing his job by the comments on pasoti. Argyle just can't keep strikers fit.
0-2...F/T Another stats massacre for Argyle.....but you get no points for statistics. Argyle...22-7...shots Argyle...7-2 on target Argyle...5-4 corners Argyle 3 fouls....Cheltenham 17 fouls Cheltenham...3 yellows Argyle 55% possession League position 14th. Have we upset the football gods or something. sensible will be in a foul mood when he posts later. One bright point for me.....Bromley top of the National League...3122 att (generally 900/1000 approx).....might be playing Argyle next season as long as we don't get relegated......
There is absolutely no way they should have lost that game. They played well enough and the stats showed it. BUT you have to score goals, and thats where the problem lies. Shooting outside of the box maybe would help.
I am only going to say the Referee once again lost us this game. He was just awful. 3 penalties minimum and god knows how many cards he didn't show. How can you not even book a player yet call the Captain over with the player and have a word? Absolutely shocking and BC is right we should never have lost the game.
Looking rather ominous regarding strikers and injuries isn't it.....Telford and Moore seem prone to having too much time in the recovery room....then there is Taylor with his glass ankles.....and now we're hearing Rudden is back in Scotland being injury assessed....he has been disappointing so far....is Div2 more demanding than the game time he was successful with in Scotland. Plus injuries to Baxter and Riley as well luck does seem to have deserted us.....Then there is the attention that Mayor is getting continually being clattered and shown little protection from refs who just give free kicks without too much penalizing of the offenders....it seems Lowe had a word pre-match with the ref regarding Mayor being singled out for rough treatment....but obviously refs seem rather lenient regarding protecting skilled players from what in the end is nothing better than thuggery. Have we got too many tippy-tappy players that fail to deliver that final goal scoring pass....or is it that our strikers are not up to the challenge....Moore and Telford seem unable to stay fit...Taylor is more of a route one player and we're not sure what type Rudden is at present....young Klaidi Lolos is getting some game time...but it is a big leap into first team football at his age.
At half time, we'd completely outclassed them (although admittedly that gets you nowhere in itself) and had a shed load of shots, They'd committed 11 fouls, most of them close to GBH on Danny Mayor, drawing a totally inadequate single yellow card. We'd conceded just 1 foul, which was the one the ref used to disallow Aimson's headed goal. They'd had 2 shots on target only from which they'd scored 1 goal. Early in the second half, ref fails to give a stonewall penalty when Mayor is tripped, I saw it clearly. Travesty of a result really, but we do have issues. Firstly, we lost a lot when Telford had to go off. It does make you wonder whether Alex Fletcher would fit better into this system than Ryan Taylor. Secondly, a bit of variety would help unsettle a defence. A quick pass, a sudden shot. We do look as though we're trying to walk it into the net every time. Mayor has the ability to beat defenders twice, three times.......... but just because he can, it doesn't mean he should. Extremely disappointing and undeserved result.
Oh while on the subject of young players, that Adam Randell came on as a substitute. Really didn't look as though he'd been there for years, really didn't spray the ball around like a seasoned pro. I'd say to any big clubs that have heard of him, just move along, nothing to see here.
