What is going on training sessions again, apparantly gone back to Stoke and loan agreement cancelled Bristol City striker Benik Afobe is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury in training. The striker signed on loan from Stoke City in the summer and has been in good form for the Robins so far this season, netting three goals in six Championship matches. Yet Bristol Live understands that it is unlikely that he will play any further part in the Robins' campaign after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament. Generally, it can take a minimum of nine months for a player to return to match fitness after such an injury, which would effectively rule Afobe out for the season. Afobe previously suffered a torn ACL in 2013 when on loan at Millwall from Arsenal, which saw him ruled out for eight months. It is a blow to the Robins, who signed Afobe on deadline day in August having spent the majority of the summer searching for a new striker. Whilst they still have Famara Diedhiou who can lead the line up front, and the 26-year-old impressed against Stoke City at the weekend, it leaves them short on numbers in attack having allowed Matty Taylor to leave on loan for Oxford United last month. Afobe had also struck up a promising partnership with Andreas Weimann and his absence is also likely to put more emphasis on young Antoine Semenyo's successful transition to the first team. It is the latest in a frustrating start to the season in terms of injuries for City, who have already had Adam Nagy, Bailey Wright and Tomas Kalas missing matches. "Bailey Wright is back in training," said Johnson in an injury update on Wednesday afternoon. "Adam (Nagy), we will test Friday. He’s still a bit thick around the ankle but he is on the mend." On Kalas, he said: "He is going to be a bit longer. We don’t want to rush that one. He’s going to get re-scanned to see if the tear has decreased, as it should have done." Bristol City declined to comment when asked today about Afobe's fitness. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
We can forget that unless something can be pulled out of the hat. Crazy more injuries on the training pitch than on the field off play.
You couldn't make this up ! Are we allowed to get someone in on an emergency loan if we can prove we are genuinely short of strikers ?
I think we need a major review of training procedures. This cannot just be bad luck, it has been getting worse year on year for the last 3 years.
It does seem strange, this has been talked about since Weds, the club hasn’t denied if, or put out any kind of statement, I’ve not commented until now as I don’t usually take any notice of rumours, but this one does seem different, I hope there isn’t any truth in it .
I hope it is false news, simply put he has made a massive difference to our play. MID TABLE AT BEST WITHOUT HIS PRESENCE ON THE PITCH.
I know it's a repeat of what we have all heard but the Bristol Post is certainly headlining it. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/breaking-bristol-city-suffer-huge-3335544
What benefit to the club is there in not making a comment and keeping their fans guessing? We pretty much know it’s happened , and Swansea will plan for all eventualities anyway, he’s a major part of our plans for this season, therefore I feel for the fans sake rather than keeping them in the dark the club would be better to be open and honest, rather than trying to gain whatever slight advantage they may think they may gain over Swansea. I just don’t see the point in not just coming out and saying either way.
