I know him fairly well and he's a really good bloke. Really puts the hours in and is, as you say, incredibly proud of Hull and isn't afraid to talk the City up
It's good to see a mayor taking an interest in the history of the City of Hull, which has a long one and many stories untold I am sure. I watched a fascinating documentary about Charles 1 on the BBC, which was about his fall from grace. I hope they do a follow on, as it was after he was driven out of the capital, which is where the documentary finishes, that he tried to enter Hull and was repelled by Hotham. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0006pbj
Hotham was later executed by the Parliamentarians, along with his son, for betraying the cause. Did they ask Charles 1 if he was a red and white or black and white when he tried to enter the town?
They ought to put those chaps with machine guns in the town centre to good use, when Greggs comes under attack again. Hull, City of Culture. My arse!
Not really a culture item but it's Hull. 132 mph is bad enough but on the bridge? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-49840891
‘Kinell..... he’s in a spot of bother with that one! 5 year ban or a bit of porridge!! Wtf was he driving??
To be fair, some stretches of road are accident black spots, and your risk of an accident is greater when you're in them, so it's safer to spend as little time as possible in them, so it was just him being safety conscious. If he had gone through two speed cameras, without slowing down in between, he's only exceeded the speed limit once too, so the fine and points will be less. There's no copyright on this advice, so feel free to use it in Court should the need ever arise.
Great night at the Middleton Hall last night - as usual the Unthanks were excellent but the bonus was the brilliant support group (well duo really) - The Bookshop Band.
