Liverpool chief executive Peter Moore has stayed in hospital with a fan who was "ambushed" in a bar in Naples before the Reds' Champions League loss to Napoli on Tuesday. The fan collapsed at half-time due to "significant blood loss" according to a post on social media. Merseyside Police say two Liverpool fans were reportedly assaulted at a bar before the match at 18:00 local time. They were attacked by a group on scooters and suffered cuts and grazes. The two men from the UK, aged 26 and 46, were treated at the scene before attending the game. Moore had responded to a tweet asking for supporters to visit the injured fan, who has now been discharged from hospital. "I'm at the hospital with him right now," Moore tweeted just before 01:00. "We will not leave him until we are comfortable that he's fine." He later added: "The hospital staff and the police have now helped Steven and have been very co-operative. He's been seen and will be monitored throughout the night. He asked me to thank everyone for their concern."
And one of the reasons I hate us getting any Italian team in a competition. Shame for all the decent Italian fans but Italian football is long overdue an investigation into its fans behaviour. We've had decades of their crap.
When the attacks happen away from the ground there's nothing Uefa can do about it, when the two lads from Leeds were murdered in Istanbul Galatasary couldn't be punished because of where the poor lads lost their lives. But like jb says, they've gotten away with pre and post Heysel, I can't see it ever changing because the policing methods and organisation in Italy is pathetic, the police over here are much better but as in the case of Sean Cox even they get it wrong sometimes.
Hey mate, hope all's well They're not just violent, some of the Italians are now violent and racist. Looks like they're getting away with all of it.
Yeah, I'm okay thanks. It's been said many times but if all the stabbings and beatings would've happened in England the Italians would be at the front of the queue demanding action, but the usual excuse is that using knives is part of their culture.
I’m sorry but I’m still fuming about VAR. I was one of the few that thought it would help improve the game by ensuring correct decisions are made. By only overturning clear and obvious errors, you’re still letting referees getting away with said errors. In the case of the penalty, i understand why the referee gave it. It looks like a penalty. But it’s clear to see it’s a dive. UEFA are still protecting the referees. I also read somewhere that slow mo replays aren’t to be used as part of VAR. God only knows why if that’s the case!
I can understand slow motion for some things. Things like handball look a lot worse in slow mo as it looks like they have a lot more time to get out the way etc, or a late tackle looks even later in slow motion compared to potentially just being a millisecond late in on someone. But it has its uses to be to be able to clearly see if contact is made with a player / the ball etc. Just need to use common sense that’s all
Unfortunately common sense and the governing bodies do not often coincide. I'm another who thought var would be a good addition to the game, but the way it's been implemented is shocking. "I can see why hes given it" should not be a basis for descions.
