That was highly entertaining and what a difference it to makes to have two forwards with good movement who are very comfortable with the ball at their feet. Cummings' strike was pure class and we played some good passing attacking football throughout. Defensively it was not great though they were three clinical strikes from Southend. The midfield struggled after Norburn went off and I wonder whether we could have switched to 4-4-2 when we were protecting a two goal lead. I think Pierre will have to come back in and I also thought it was O'Leary's weakest performance for us - he hesitated about coming off his line and was out of position for their second goal. If we can tighten things up a bit defensively and keep our midfield shape a bit better we at last seem to have a proper goal threat. It is not easy finding decent strikers and if the two new lads continue as they have started then Ricketts deserves a lot of credit for bringing them in.

we have been hoping to be enterained and tonight we where, from struggling to score to a a goal scoring feast.a bright start by town looking comfertable with two good goals by town ,town were given loads of room which they expoited well.
then a beckles error and then not defending the far corner ,which gave southend a boost and town and town looked like they had the stuffing knocked out of them. i was glad to see half time and time for town to re group

a weaving run from Whalley and a scuffed shoot from norburn,Southend second goal was a strange one as Love just seem to stop ,i wondered if he had a shout or just got confused , town worked hard Cummings two brief appaearences and two goals, lang worked incredibly hard so many good runs were just not rewarded with a deacent pass his goal was richly desreved, Giles had the run of the left wing, laurent cut out a lot of passes but at times looked hesitent with the ball when he went forward, Norburn and goss worked well , goss was unlucky to not score from a free kick.
i thought towns midfield lost some of its shape when Norburn was subbed.Edwards failed to make an impact but is he fully fit?
whilst the last southend goal was a thunderbolt, he should not have been able to run so far unchalenged.

an enjoyable game for any neutrals, i was a bit suprised to see the crowd was 4,909 as it looked a lot less.we now have two tough games and town will have to defend a lot better than tonight to get some points from these games.
a valuable win and we found our scoring boots, who would have thought they would come to a game with seven goals tonight.!

ricketts desrvers credit for going with an attacking team.

my friend who is a forest fan said that whilst Cummings has talent on his loan spells he has started brightly and gets goals and then fizzels out. he also mentioned this article

    https://seatpitch.co.uk/2019/01/25/the-curious-case-of-nottingham-forest-striker-jason-cummings/

"Cummings has proved previously during his career that he knows where the back of the net is; although there is enough to suggest that an attitude problem could be hampering his progress."

he will now have things to prove and let us hope he can rebuild his career and reputation, he is also in talks with the australian national team afre not picking up caps with Scotland for some time.

Thanks for those interesting articles Zen. The funny thing is that if he does score six goals for us and then fizzles out he would still probably end up our leading goal scorer for the season. I think he could well be the sort of player that enjoys being a big fish in a small pond and let's hope being with us can help him keep motivated. From what I saw last night he is the player currently at the club with the most natural ability and it will get his career back on track if he clicks with us.

it is all about perception we have seen more than a few town players who have flourished at other clubs . in his brief appearences he has shown more of a threat in front of goal than our other forwards but to be fair to them ,the supply to our forwards this season has not been the best and i dont see many teams giving forwards so much time and space as they got the other night. let us hope he can flourish with us and he is already our top scorer (2) ,prior to the southend game only bottom club had scored less goals (1) we had (5 bearing in mind 3 came in one game) and now in one game we nearly doubled it to 9
we now have two very tough games

Did Edwards do anything with the ball at the match on Tuesday?

no but to be fair he came on for the last twenty minutes things were a bit end to end and it can be hard to pick the pace as a sub.
with his Ankle swelling up at the end of a full game and been rested , i wonder if he was brought back to soon. whilst i hope he can make an impact so far he has been disapointing this season..
