Some players always want to move to bigger clubs, so we have to keep winning things so there won't be anyone bigger. Winning the CL will have been a major factor in keeping these players here this time around, and we have to continue to build on that.
Absolutely. I believe that most who are ambitious to win things will stick with a winning team. There are those who like a challenge, but going to Real, Barca or PSG hardly qualifies as that. If we are winning major trophies, how many would leave us for the likes of, say, Lyon or Villarreal? Then it comes down to money, and I think you and I agree on that issue anyway.
Challenge doesn’t necessarily mean moving to a team that will struggle to win. It could mean challenging yourselves to a new environment, new language, new culture, new style etc.
Just to add to that, moving to Barca or Real comes with a completely different set of expectation. Salah/Mane would be expected to score 10 goals a game else they would be deemed a failure. Playing in front of 70-90k fans waiting to pounce on any mistake. If players want to test themselves in that environment then fair enough.
Can’t see Madrid going for salah. It’s pretty well known they want mbappe and he’ll be there in a season or two. They also need to replace the modric and kroos in midfield over next season or two
Who knows what motivates players. We got Virgil when he could have gone anywhere. If we believe the story at the time, Klopp sold him LFC and he bought it. Ambitious players want to play with the best players and for the best managers. The unambitious (is that a word) just want the money. Our front 3 are ambitious so it remains to be seen whether we meet their ambitions or not which in turn will decide their futures. It would be great if that was with us.
I don't think he's chasing the money either, I think it's more the prestige of those clubs which appeal to him. Twenty years or so ago when he was a kid, they were the big European teams to dream of. But as he's progressed with his career, he's entitled to ask for more money as he moves on - just Real didn't see him as worth his demands for now. He's doing a lot for charities and causes, generous guy, but from the Salah who first came to us and kept his life and good deeds quiet, his PR team are attempting to push his profile. I don't think it suits him personally.
I'm not disputing anything you're saying because I can't prove otherwise but I'm interested to know where you read about his PP team and 'demands ' as it doesn't fit with the Salah impression I have.
