Sunderland v Rotherham United – Skybet League One Last time out Sunderland beat Accrington and Rotherham beat Bolton. The Black Cats host Rotherham at the Stadium of Light. Charlie Wyke is available for selection following his one match ban, but Duncan Watmore (thigh) is sidelined through injury. New signings Joel Lynch and Laurens de Bock both played for the U23s on Monday night. The Millers will be confident coming into this game after putting 6 past Bolton at the weekend. Jack Ross: “To score 18 goals in 9 games is healthy, the quality of what we do in the final third is unquestionable” “We knew that this month was important to us. If we can reproduce elements of what we showed on Saturday in our games coming up, it will put us in a good position going into the winter months.” “We want to go above the average of 2 points per game, we will keep striving towards that, and it has been a solid start for us.” “Duncan Watmore is still missing, Charlie Wyke is obviously back from suspension, he had a little ankle injury, but he’s returned to training.” “As things stand we have no fresh concerns from the weekend despite having a couple of players playing who had been carrying injuries.” “We will see how they are in terms of playing another game in relatively quick succession, but we are in good health as a squad.” Prutton predicts: Meh Match Appointments: Referee: BEN TONER Assistants: Gareth Mellor and Richard Wigglesworth Fourth Official: Garreth Rhodes Team Line ups Sunderland: J.McLaughlin, O’Nien, Ozturk, Willis, Hume, McGeouch, Dobson, Gooch, McGeady, Maguire, Wyke Subs: Burge, Flanagan, McLaughlin, Leadbitter, Power, Embleton, McNulty Injured: Watmore My two pence: A great win on Saturday that got us back on track, we really need to push on with the up-coming fixtures this month. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a few tweaks to the team depending on the players carrying injuries. My guess is a 2-1 home win Ha’way the Lads
Another 3-1. 3-1 is the new 1-1 don’t you know. At work until 8 so having to miss it, which pisses me off.
First clean sheet, 2-0 to the lads. Rotherham took all their chances against Bolton which will give us the clean sheet. That's how football works sometimes.
3 points is all that matters at the minute. 1-0 bouncing in off somebodies buttock in the 90th minute would suffice but hoping we can get a comfortable win and no biting fingernails the last 10 mins. I quite liked the idea of letting McGeady n Gooch wander into the middle behind the front men.Makes it difficult for the defence to mark them.
Rotherham have scored 4 away goals so far this season. Three from set pieces and an own goal. Our old friend Billy Jones has not made an appearance so far this season.
Be nice to see a crowd get behind the team from start to finish. We’re a better side when we’re well backed. Looking forward to it. Love night games
i totally agree but the team need to excite the crowd, they cannot expect the crowd to just turn up and cheer when they dont put the effort in. good play brings its own reward and vice versa..
Not sure I would change the front line tbh, Wyke on his own does not complement MaGeady or Maguire's style imo, and playing two up front leaves our weak midfield exposed, this dilemma has confused us so far, and needs to be solved, for me Wyke is not the answer especially in home games. I have been wrong before of course but its just my opinion. Whoever plays we should win but to do it comfortably would be a nice change. Away the lads.
Nothing but a win is expected. I would really like to see us go for the jugular with someone and stick 4/5 past them. Statement of intent.
On the other side of that - how would you perform if you turned up to work in front of a load of people who are negative towards you? WOuld you perform to the best of your abilities? Chicken and egg scenario really - you used to often see a team start off poorly and a crowd gets behind them and they improve - Happenes at Roker loads of times. Nowadays the fans seem to want to moan no matter what - I mean people are already lauding our new manager Sam Allardyce FFS!
What are the odds on 1-0 ! when did we last win 1-0 ! do you know Jack's team have scored in every one of his 26 league games on the trot that must be a record. watch the match on safc for £10 i am going. That refs name is strange, Ben toner you could get it mixed up like the pheasant pluckers hehe.
I'd take a hard-earned 0-1 away win, or for us more like a 1-2.... They thumped Bolton on Saturday, but mixed results otherwise. While they're absolutely no walkover we should be getting 3 points.
