I see the Usual Suspects elsewhere are painting a dystopian picture about the matchday “service” (sic) in Crossbars. A couple of times this season I have stood in the car park after 2pm, and you can clearly see from outside how packed and cramped it is, with the long queues. And that’s before you queue to be searched by Keohane’s Minimum Wage Arny before you even have the privilege. Why would you subject yourself to that, in addition to then having to pay over £5 for a plastic glass of flat lager ? Or am I missing something
Got it in one In which case, don’t start a thread with your fellow wallys, complaining about Keohane & the service ...
Interested in @Beware of the Virus view on this, as he also spends money at the club on match days. (Not sure if he looks old enough to drink in Crossbars though?)
I've been in once a couple of years back. The reason being after a match, with people in the group going off in varios dirctions, it was the nearest option for keeping the evening running. The beer selection was dire, and overpriced, but it was half empty. However, there are a lot of good pubs in the área, and you can drink in Greenwich or elsewhere and easily get a train in. I wouldn't touch it again except in an alcohol emergency - why complain?
I went in the Bugle Horn on Saturday. It was noticeably busier than in the last 3/4 seasons. Service was decent as well, and there were big screens to watch the football. The beer is also £2 cheaper per pint than in Crossbars, and having bubbles in it is always a bonus.
I don't drink. And the coffee at the ground (both inside and out) has always been crap. I've never owned a flask. Bottled water is the way to go for me.
To be honest, AllHell, I'm not a big fan of water either. I quite like Pepsi, but only in a glass with ice and a slice. The options at most football grounds are limited for me, so water it must be. I don't really drink tea, but when I do I insist on Twinnings or M&S, both of the breakfast variety.
@Ponders Revisited Someone suggested to me last week that two tea bags in the cup leads to the perfect cup of tea ? I find an absolute maximum of two cups of tea / coffee per day is all that I can deal with. The appalling craving for tobacco kicks in after one sip ...and I always relent
I should think one decent teabag is enough to make the perfect brew. Two seems like a bit of overkill to me. Like I say, coffee is my preferred drink. Ethiopian beans are the best in the world. As for tobacco, I always smoke after meals, hot drinks and lovemaking. I smoke roughly 20 a day.
I walked past Crossbars on Saturday and there was not a single person queueing to get in. The Royal Oak served me immediately. No complaints.
Proper tea is made in a pot with loose leaf tea, preferably Yorkshire. Bottled water is a con, tap water is just as good and you don't have the plastic to dispose of . If you visit the reservoir at Beule Water you can see how carefully tap water is treated. Crossbars is just another example of how clubs exploit fans' loyalty to rip them off. The Bugle Horn does an excellent pint, so does the Rose of Denmark, in a proper glass at a proper price.
