Desmond would represent a decent series for an England side missing Anderson, a match winning spinner, three Test quality batters in the top 4 and the mindset to play in anything other than one day mode.
Presumably Broad now bats at 11 to preserve energy ie he either doesn't bat or he just goes out and has a quick slog.

When he was new to test cricket he often scored alot of runs and was close to being considered as an all rounder. Last 5 years his batting has got worse and worse
He got found out with the well directed short ball and batted with fear. When he was fearless and played his shots, he was a decent number 8.
