Sunderland travel to the Wham Stadium in Skybet League One - again. Jack Ross is expected to be without a few players for the trip to Accrington Stanley. Duncan Watmore is recovering from a thigh strain and Charlie Wyke is suspended and both will miss the trip to Lancashire. Luke O'Nien is available after his red card was rescinded. New boys Lynch & De Bock will not be included in the squad. Jack Ross: “I have met and spoken to people who may potentially be involved in the ownership of the club. I wouldn’t say too much about the extent and content of the conversation because nothing has been concluded yet, but I have had dialogue with people that might be involved." “There’s maybe a misconception out there that a takeover means all of a sudden you spend loads and loads of money. The conversations I’ve had have been about how, in my opinion, you might build a sustainable football club." “That’s from the elements that I’m involved in, the ones that I control and the ones that I branch into. I think that might be the way forward for us, that medium to long-term growth and how you sustain it, while obviously achieving short-term success in terms of results. “I’ve enjoyed the dialogue I’ve had that might be involved, I’ve enjoyed it but it’s not really gone any further than that.” “First of all, the summer taught me not to get too worked up about everything until it’s concluded or completed" “Secondly, I’ve said often enough, I have a good personal relationship with Stewart. I speak to him a lot so I know what’s going on. I’d be reluctant to speak about it properly until everything is concluded and ratified because we ultimately endured a lot of speculation in the summer that ultimately came to nothing.” John Coleman: "I think I have made up my mind what my starting XI will be, but it has been tricky" said the Reds boss. "I am probably still in two minds about one position." "At our club, we know that our signings are punts to some extent. Some of them have played none or little league football so you are never quite sure how they will react, but it's been positive on the training pitch." "You have to pick what you think will be the best team to give you the best chance of beating the opposition, and we know that Sunderland will be tough." "They have had to sit and stew following their defeat to Peterborough before the international break, and it can go one of two ways. They can be fired up to avenge that or be a bit rusty after a two week break." “I watched the game against Peterborough and, despite the 3-0 scoreline, it could have gone either way. Peterborough were just more clinical on the day." “We obviously played Sunderland in the Carabao Cup recently and lost 3-1 but I think that scoreline flattered them." Team Line ups Sunderland: J.McLaughlin, C.McLaughlin, Ozturk, Willis, Hume, Dobson, Leadbitter, Maguire, Gooch, McGeady, McNulty Subs: Burge, Flanagan, McGeouch, Embleton, O'Nien, Power, Grigg Injured: Watmore Suspended: Wyke Accrington: Evtimov, Johnson, Hughes, Sykes, Maguire, Clark, Finley, Conneely, Pritchard, McConville, Bishop Subs: Edwards, Sherif, Brown, Simmonds, Sousa, Bento de Carvalho, Bursik Injured: tbc Betting Odds: Home 13/5 Away 19/20 Draw 12/5 My two pence: We beat Accrington 3-1 in the Carabao (League) Cup last month and we should have enough to beat them again. However, as we found with Walsall last year, the more you play some teams the harder it gets to beat them. My guess is another 3-1 win Ha’way the Lads
We should have too much for them if we turn up in the right frame of mind, any complacency could cost us dear, 3-0 would balance out the last result, but 3 points are vital to keep us on track, and a clean sheet would be a welcom bonus.
what's the weather forecast for down there ? anyhow we need to get back to winning ways dare not predict the score though ! By the way what is it like standing in a ground it is years since i did ! Accy's looks a bit like York's in the 1980's when i went, and it was packed but some trouble afterwards.
Watmore. When they say injured is this his current injury or an "alleged" new one he has suffered? Personally, and I hope I am wrong, that Dunc is made of glass and is probably looking for an insurance pay out as opposed to taking a massive pay cut or being freed and not getting a new club at the end of this season. Every time he is "almost there" another 3-4 week injury occurs. Like I say I hope I am wrong but this lad has cost SAFC a few bob for the amount of games he has played. Back to the game and I expect us to win. I would like to see both Grigg & McNulty upfront. F*ck this going for an away point. Lets go to win every game.
We’ve an alright looking run of games about now, we need to put a real run together and show some proper intent.
Let's face it it wouldn't be a shock if it turned out that he was always injured and ultimately had to retire but I don't believe that his recent injuries are any kind of reoccurrence. If he was a languid CM he would have had an easier comeback but with his game being high energy I think his body is wondering what the f is going on and struggling to get up to speed.
A win would be good...can I stop betting on a 1-1 scoreline now Good opening post Nor sure if Watmore is made of glass, but the tackle that put him out of the game and injured last season was no joke.. the bloke should have been charged with GBH. Remind who it was and when we play them again? Just looked it up...Marcus Bean, Wycombe Wanderers
Interesting move with McLaughlin available, I haven't seen him in person much but he's not exactly been getting rave reviews.
