Are we in the ****e?

Discussion in 'Watford' started by Mexican Hornet, Aug 24, 2019.

  1. You more or less said we should all shut up because we're not in the position of Bolton or Bury. So in a cartoon sense it's like saying yeah you've lost your arms but it could be worse as you could have lost your legs too. Yeah maybe not the most tasteful or best advised so genuine apologies for that but yes it was a joke.
I always say we'll go down as my tipping is so bad I'm hoping it works in our favour.

Are we in the sh.....te ? Certainly not - clubs who are historically much bigger than us such as Sunderland would bite their hands off to be where we are now. We've played 3 bad games in a row after, what I think, was an inadequate pre season but the World is not caving in yet. Had we won our 3 opening games by the same margins as we lost them then would we have had a thread which said 'Will we be league champions' ? Obviously not - it would have been laughable. We have no divine right to Premiership football, and if much bigger clubs such as Villa and Newcastle can take the drop then so can we. My biggest fear is another couple of dodgy results and a knee jerk reaction from the Pozzo's which results in yet another journeyman manager who doesn't know the Premiership, and needs to brush up on his English first. Unfortunately though it is the manager who will be the fall guy and not the Pozzo's who question their system of working. Where would we be now if they had done it all differently ? Gone for continuity and kept Sean Dyche + economic stability and the chance to build a team bit by bit.

After watching tonights game the future is bright and yellows long as Javi has the courage to replace the non performers with the players tonight who showed they wanted to play for Watford
Janmaat, Kabasele Sarr and possibly Mariappa must be in contention for Saturday
Penaranda ans Bashiru probably need more game time but could be on the bench
Wellbeck appears fit enough but needs to get his sharpes back
Success put in a very good shift but final ball sometimes astray
Chalobah stated nervously but gained some confidence, if he can get get this head right he could be a good player for us again
Quina had a very good game and must be in contention soon
Foulquier was a right footed player playing at left back but looked good at times
The right combination of today's and last Saturdays team could give Newcastle a shock on Saturday
The futures bright, the futures vYellow

If we are all 100% honest we would all settle for surviving and having a good cup run
If the club invest in the right calibre of player and get rid of the driftwood we could be a top ten team but we do have some players who are surviving solely on reputation and not now giving 100%
I wish we had sold Doucoure to Everton, if he played for them like he has played for us so far this season he would prevent them from being a top ten team
I know not everyone would not agree with me but last season he was forgiven for his numerous mistakes in midfield because of his work rate
This season he is losing possession far too easily but not making up for it with his energy and work rate

We could certainly do with getting rid of some of the driftwood. The plan from the Pozzo's over the last few years has been to send us over a multitude of potential half talent with the instructions to keep what is usefull to us. Unfortunately this leads to having squads of about 35 players (as at present). Keeping all players match fit and raring to go under those circumstances is difficult - it is also difficult to build up a real team spirit. I actually don't think that Gracia really knows what is his best starting 11. We don't need more players being sent over, we need a reduced squad and a manager who knows the Premiership, and who can really form a team as opposed to the collection of individuals we currently have.

The thing is Cologne Gracia is now in his third year and should be understanding the Premier League
The likelihood is we would end up with another non British manager who would need time to understand the Premier League
If however Gracier does not learn from what we saw last night he has run out of time, Saturdays team must include a few of last nights side

I might be getting a bit long in the tooth, but I do get fed up with everything having to be instant. Instant news, instant dinner, instant results. Unless you read the whole article the instant headline can be misleading, instant dinner out of the microwave might be useful sometimes, but goes nowhere near waiting for a time while the chef prepares and cooks it, and if you haven't won the last game it shows that you are useless and shouldn't even have a proper ground to play in. Rant over! :emoticon-0100-smile

Sorry Frenchie, but it wasn't an instant thread. It is genuine concern. I hope I am wrong.

Well we won't want to rely on Goal difference.

Man City won't define our season but the 8 goals will dent confidence although they all seemed fairly ok at the end patting the City players .

If performances continue in this manner then the usual scapegoat will be found ie. the manager. You can sack him - but you can't get rid of a squad of gutless, journeymen pussies from one day to the next. Equally you cannot sack the owners - or rather get them to face up to the fact that their system has it's limits. The managers' role is a low key one at Watford in which you do not have the opportunity to build a team in your own image. Maybe the Pozzo's need to use their resources to actually get a manager in place who has some pedigree behind him, other than a string of lower clubs from the Serie A or La Liga which have barely lasted a year at most. If Norwich can get a manager like they have then we can do the same. Daniel Farke is his own man - a chip off the Kloppo block. But the Pozzo's are not interested in people who are their 'own men' - which rather restricts their choice. It is time to stop thinking that they can send scores of half finished players to us who have never known anything other than the lower reaches of La Liga or Serie A or South America with the instructions 'keep what you want and send the rest back'. It leads to an oversized squad of half talents over which a manager cannot really have a good overview, and cannot keep the whole squad match fit. Maybe they should also expand their scouting on a geographical basis - imo the best talents we have had from the continent have been Heidar Helguson, Gunnarsson, Allan Nielsen, and for a year Matej Vydra and Almen Abdi - the best continental manager Jokanovic. Where does this leave Italy and Spain ?

I agree with alotof the above, but yesterday the tatics were wrong and apparently no effort was made to change them. I really think the head of recruitment needs to be held responsible now. QSF was brought back to tighten the defence, yesterday we did not seem to have defenders ie players that can mark, track other players.
I would like a statement from Gino, yesterday was an absolute disgrace that has tarnished our club. This will have consequences going forward with sponsors etc. The business model yesterday was severely damaged. This morning it is so hard to see anything other than a relegation.
We now have the honour of holding the following records.
1, Heaviest Cup final defeat in over 100 years.
2, Conceeding fastest Premier League Goal.
3, Conceeding highest number of goals in shortest time period at start of match 5 in 18 minutes.
4, Heaviest half time deficit in Premeir League history.
All the above achieved in a little over 4 months.

The Pozzo model is one where we pick up young players with promise, hope that they develop into very good players, and sell them on at a huge profit, which helps to sustain their clubs. There is nothing new in this. Way back in the early days of my following Watford we would see players, often locally based, come through and win the support of the fans, only to see them sold to balance the books. The big difference in those days was us having to sell just for survival, yet today we can be a bit more choosey.
If you look back, and again at what happens today throughout football transfers, nearly all, there are exceptions, big money transfers are for forwards who can score goals. My suspicion is that in the scouting program the Pozzos have, it is the goal scorers they are looking for, but it had to be obvious last season that it was our defence that need serious changes. We brought in Dawson who was really a Championship standard player, and we already have a number of those. The awful shortcomings in our defence were an open invitation for a team to score a hatful against us.
