so we signed frank nouble from west ham utd for a month.
a few things that hess says just doesn't fit in with what he has spoken of over the last two months though?
like we are taking our time to find the right player...so is nouble really what the manager has been waiting for or is he a last resort signing with so many turning us down???
the fact that yesterday or today we have heard ronan murrey of ipswich town turned down signing for us on loan at last minute.
were we trying to sign both of them or was nouble the back up for murrey if that deal failed?, because we could do with two rather than one.

we have signed nouble for a month yet hess said rather than sign someone permanently, he rather sign a player on loan with a view to a full deal if he turns out good enough, yet the manager said of this player when he signed; we hope he can come here and do well before he goes back to west ham...not a sign that we will make it long term like is spoken of!

just so much of what has been spoken of and whats happening is panic & make the most of it, with regards a striker...or is that just me that feels this way?

Reguards to the Murrey deal, reading Paul Jewells comments, it seems as though it was us that pulled out, but how much we can read into that im not sure. On the other points you make, some of the issues do seem to be that way, but personally, im hoping that Nouble is the man we need, and hopefully tomorrow he can prove that if he plays.

I don't think Nouble was the original intended player but by no accounts do I think it is a desperation Signing. For me Nouble certainly has one thing we need, pace, but he also has so many other attributes, height, strength and a bit of skill. I'm very happy with this signing and even though it may be a stop gap signing it does mean that we should be able to bring someone else in.

I'm very hopeful that this could be a turning point for us.

yes thom the more you read it, it does seem that maybe the murrey deal was canceled in favour of the nouble deal(possibly the campionship striker) hess was waiting on. who knows so many things have been said and alot of time has past.
would of been nice to try them both out at same time!

certainly hope nouble does the business and comes good straightaway to kick start our season...like most fans! :smiley-finger007:

Hess - Damned if he didn't get another striker. Now being damned because he did.
With his financial restraints, I don't think the best manager in the world could perform miracles. I have too voiced some criticism, mainly about the pointless hoofball - but Hess HAS done something about the striker situation. hope that we can get back to the passing football of the first few games - and start creating (and scoring) chances.
Let's EVERYONE concentrate on total support.

I think Nouble will do well, I hope I am right, well he did play 10 games in the Premiership and he is still only 19 so I hope he is the man.

That goes without saying. Not just him scoring goals but also the team scoring goals. what I am hopeful for is, going forward, the ball will stay forward a bit longer now that Kedwell will have support. This in turn will give the midfield a chance to get up and add extra support. (Because, to me, if the ball was knocked long then Keds was fighting a losing battle against 2/3/4 defenders and by the time support came it was then needed in defense as we were no longer in control of the ball. If we played it through midfield we seemed to get bogged down by sheer weight of numbers.) This will produce more goals from all over the team. Also if we are able to keep the ball more and higher up the pitch then this reduces the chance of us conceding.

    Here's hoping.

can i just say people need to get off the hess said this and said that bandwagon as he was mostly saying what his prefered situation would be not exactly what he was going to do. dont rip into the guy for going out and getting the best player he deemes is available and that wants to come.

jokeykid...my opinion is mine ok my friend, it's no bandwagon or linch mob thing...i take it you have been reading most other forums to come to this conclusion with my thread...could not be any further from what i say or feel for this club and the feel good factor this club should have and show.
but don't tell me not to judge hessy on what he or the club have said or what is not happening to move us forward.

the fact that we have needed a striker for a good few weeks, is comical and that hess has said so and so ie; i can't see us having one in for this game, though i do expect it to happen the following game on two or three occasions, we don't want just any player...though strikers are moving back and forth in our division all the time.
point after point has been dropped and kedwell's confidence has been hit for six, along with what looks like the rest of the team now!

be it six games in or thirty games in...scally and hess have made statements at the start of the season like most seasons...promotion is a must & this is the best team we have put togeather at this club...no need to put those types of pressure on the team!

i'm a season ticket holder, shareholder and you might as well say i travel to away games every week coming from oxford...which isn't cheep.
my support is without doubt...faultless & one of wanting the best for gillingham fc, hess being the best player i would say gillingham have had...other than robert taylor!
so i'm not really looking for hess to be sacked in anyway, because i do believe he has this clubs best interests at heart and want him if any to succeed with us!

the longer we hang around this division though, our club will decline...players as we are finding don't want to come to us and the attendences are dropping every season...i want us able to compete with the best where we are and challenging, because like i say we can't stay where we are!

the prefered situation you refer to with hess and him trying is not good enough, most post match interviews are laughable and then he will retract what has been said in his next pre match interview.
just not sure he has the know how, along with the lost tactics and not knowing what to do next or for the best of the team and a win!

a coach is a must...not just keeping the tight net of staff in the family or scally being happy because money is being saved, the chairman needs to push the limits to achive his & our aims...now!!!

i want whats best for the gills and improvement needs to happen, because we shouldn't be in the positon we are and excepting it jokeykid, so yes i will talk my views when i'm concerned, be it you or anyone else not having the same opinion as myself!

hope nouble has been worth waiting for and the team start to perform as a team as of today...three points a must & moving up the league to stay where we should be!!!

    rant over <ok>

Phew!! But points well made and with which I am broadly in agreement.

What I came to this thread for was just to comment on the length of the loan. On another thread there's useful information from a Hammer about Nouble (quite encouraging from a playing point of view as well) that WHU have been loaning out a lot of players on initial 1 month deals, and then extending the length of the loan.

I really hope that happens because
    a) I think that Nouble needs a more stable environment to play football in to develop to the level of which many believe he is capable (his other loans have been relatively short term)
    b) We don't need another striker for a few months, we need another striker for the remainder of the season. Birchall will probably be out until at least Christmas, maybe even later, which leaves Kedwell the job of being the only seasoned striker on the books. What happens if he's injured or suspended?

The bottom line is that this loan signing at face value is very much a papering over the cracks job for us. What we don't know is what undertakings (even with caveats) WHU have given to us regarding a possible extension.

In the meantime I'm worryingly optimistic about the effect that Nouble will have on the team, and if that optimism is fulfilled it'll mean that keeping hold of him for longer will become even more important.

yes but what im saying is unless hess can create a player he is unlikely to ever find exactly what he was saying he was looking for, i just feel it is unfair to critise someone for not being able to get exactly what he said he was hoping to bring in when in all likelyhood it would be impossible to find. it wasnt a direct dig at you or anyone else just in my opinion i would like to be slated for something completely out of my control
