Like I said time will tell. I rate Howe and Wilder as better than Rodgers certainly, what they have achieved is incredible.
Did anybody else see this? It popped up on my phone and I was curious. It almost seems like a set up as the guy sounds like he’s from Hampshire or perhaps he’s yet another Man Ure fan that isn’t from Manchester. Shock horror! Either way very bizarre crying over lost points... https://talksport.com/football/595597/manchester-united-fan-tears-southampton/
To be very honest he has been very average since game one. Definitely not up there with his previous performances.
Having watched the whole game we were good value for the point yesterday. Would have had a win if Cedric hadn’t danced away from James. Defensively a huge improvement, danso on the pitch seems to be having a positive effect and I thought he was very good yesterday. Until he wasn’t. We created a few chances once we got the confidence back but not enough, going behind like we did after dominating the opening 10 seemed to knock us flat too easily. I see a team that isn’t totally confident in their skin yet. Boufal had a very good game, I really enjoy seeing him out there, Romeu was MoM for me, just rock solid and very mobile. We were somewhat let down by PEH and JWP who didn’t offer enough. They were just there without doing that much. Unusual for them both, they system not quite working with them yet.
Only saw MOTD so not a fair reflection I guess but, WELL DONE SAINTS!! I’d take a point off MU any day after recent performances going back to last season’s end even. Coming from behind no mean feat and holding on however nerve racking it must have been (listening to Radio Solent was!), showed character.
So 4 games, 4pts. I think it's fair to say we have done ok, we have not done too much to get excited about, glimpses of good play rather than football to blow us away. And yet we are just a point behind Chelsea, spurs and man utd and that's after playing man utd and Liverpool. Looking forward to seeing us click, roll on the next 34 games.
Next couple are fairly important, because we have a brutal schedule thereafter: Spurs (A), Chelsea (H), Wolves (A), Leicester (H), City (A), Everton (H), Arsenal (A).
Should be on a high and full of confidence after three wins including two local derby thrashings then...
I've seen that mentioned elsewhere but if you watch the replay he had another runner to James' left so he was covering two forward players. His positioning was spot on to try and block the shot and close down the pass. At the end of the day it was a terrific goal.
The danger is always the ball. It was a good run, but if Cedric had closed the danger and James had played Mata in, he’d have been crossing the ball, which all though a danger, still gives us a chance to defend it. Any defender needs to stop the immediate danger to the goal first and in this case, by not doing that Cedric allowed a free shot at goal.
No I’m sorry, defending a player from 3-4m away inside the penalty area with the player facing the goal was not spot on. Far from it. If he’d been half a metre from him, yes. Any coach would look at that and say he wasn’t close enough because of the immediate danger to the goal. If James was on the touch line, maybe. The moment James got the ball, I said “stop backing away, you’re giving him chance to shoo..... oh ****.”
Not spot on, but left one on two inside the area is not good team defending. If he committed then Mata could have scored from his position. He was just handing James on to Bednarek as he shot, but he was a yard short at that point. Team must take some of the blame
