If the government had not wasted the last three years tying themselves up in this Brexit debacle, then maybe they would have commissioned an independent regulatory authority, similar to how the likes of Ofcom work, to help prevent the issues around Bolton and Bury from happening. Regardless of your stance on Brexit, it is undoubtedly overshadowing the day-to-day running of the country and has stifled any sort of legislative programmes. What will Teresa May, a Prime Minister for almost three years, actually be remembered for?

I think it's become a necessity for an independent regulatory body, outside of the football world, to overlook the operations and ownership of football clubs - ensuring that the interests and livelihoods of club supporters and employees are sufficiently protected. One long-serving, historic football club going under is bad enough, but we almost had two teams eliminated from the Football League. This shouldn't be allowed to happen. I think it is clear that both the EFL and FA are toothless, the Premier League is not interested, and this current batch of professional football club owners are mostly in it for their own pockets and can not be relied to govern themselves.

Let Bury be a lesson that charlatan football club owners can not continue to get away with fleecing people from their local institutions and way of life, which is what a football club represents. Scum like Stewart Day, Steve Dale, and Ken Anderson should be put on trial and potentially jailed for what they've done to these football clubs and the local communities.

Much like how governance for charities works. Football clubs are not just businesses. I think it’s an absolute no brainer.

Back to what this thread is all about, I think this is terrible and should be a real wake up call to clubs up and down the country.

Whilst both clubs have had very questionable owners i think there is a bigger picture here and the finances between the PL and EFL are simply too much and the FFP rules are a joke and the rules around signing under 18 players favour the PL. If things continue I think it's inevitable more clubs will go out of existence. Ipswich could well be one of them we're in a huge amount of debt and are only in existence due to a rich benefactor.

Someone used Bournemouth as a good example, I wouldn't as Bournemouth were not small spenders in any league they got in, they gambled but made good decisions, they are the lucky ones. The majority of clubs gamble but it doesn't work. We gambled when ME first came in and appointed Keane with money unfortunately it turned out to be a terrible decision. That terrible decision has had consequences on where we find ourselves today.

One club I would say who are a club who seem to have got the financial model right is Norwich and I hate to say it.

There is an article on twtd about the nfl. 1 thing that I think we could take from that sport is the size of the squad. You are only allowed a 53 man roster. If a similar rule was applied in football, clubs (we know who they are) wouldn’t be allowed to have 40 odd players out on loan and some of the better younger players would filter down through the divisions

Development of young players is such a complicated issue. I have no problem with Chelsea having thirty or forty youngsters and loaning them out if they scouted and created the players and the first team roster is not going to affect all the younger players in the various age groups, which must number hundreds of youngsters at the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea. The issue is the big clubs poaching the best talent from the smaller ones around the age of 16, 17 after years of time and investment and when you are approaching a finished product.

You don't want to take away the chance to go and play at a big club for these kids, but maybe instead of compensation being paid just at that point, the compensation is points based up until the age of 25 - made the first team / made 100 appearances in tier 1 / made 100 appearances in tier 2 / played x games in the Champions League / represented national team / large (eg 50%) proportion of first transfer fee and perhaps this only applies to players joining cat 1 academies and players who meet various criteria of age and time at the first club.

Early days, but would you rather watch us struggling in the Premier relegation zone or “storming”League One?

I’m enjoying this Season so far more than any in recent memory.

    Premier League any day.

Whack a huge chunk off the club debt and have the likes of Aguero, Salah on the Portman Road turf vs thumping Shrewsbury.
